10/3 morning run, tracking with GPS, looked at watch at mile 2,
checked a couple minutes later and it was the workout screen where you scroll to choose exercise. So I restarted “run” and went home. Synced to phone, 2+mile run is not there, was never recorded, didn’t sync. This is a MAJOR reason for buying a gps tracker, it must work every time.
Other problems-
finally got pandora stations to show up when I forced sync for 15th time on work WiFi, got Home put watch on charger, Home WiFi, pandora station and disappeared!!!! Fitbit Please fix software! Will Ben returning off not fixed in next couple weeks for refund.
I was excited aboit Ionic becuase I like fitbit, battery life vs Apple Watch, and combined the function of my old gps running watch and all day tracker. But it was released with too many problems. Please post update on firmware fixes that may be in the future.

Why is my Ionic exercise mode stopping and not recording about 3/4 of the way into my run/walk? No apparent reason. I keep checking during the run/walk and it works fine for the majority and then for some reason stops and all info is lost.

@CLA200 @runnerboi418 Welcome to the Fitbit Community! Thanks for sharing your feedback. I understand your frustration. I don't currently have any updates regarding this. However, rest assured that I will let you know once I find out!
@Careysmithwil It's great to see you in the Fitbit forums! Thanks for reporting this too. I moved your post to this thread which is about the same topic and wanted to let you know that Fitbit has received the reports from everyone here and is working to investigate further.
In the meanwhile this gets resolved; perform a restart on Ionic and please manually log your activities so you not loose any of your progress. Will keep you updated regarding this topic.
Stay tuned for updates. See you around!

Thanks for the replies. I did an update and of course restarted my Ionic. It worked ok for a couple of days and then cut out again today 3/4 of the way through my run. Frustrated!

I also have the issue of the exercise app crashing during runs..twice in the last week. This is extremely frustrating because of the data that is lost which manual updates don’t recover. I’m running the current update, so that’s not a fix. Resetting is not a fix or even a good workaround. This has been going on for about a year according to the forum, so my guess is the fix for this is not a high priority.

Ionic Exercise app crashed during a 5k run today. It's been working OK since I did a factory reset. Not sure what changed since I haven't changed any settings, but it's back to crashing. I hope this gets fixed soon. I really need a reliable GPS tracker.

I saw that this thread was linked by another Moderator on 7/13/18 on a post involving a similar issue. Can someone confirm that this issue has been going on since October?! My watch is now crashing every single time I use it when I go running.
I purchased this watch because it was advertised as having built-in GPS: "See pace, distance and other key stats on display, while recording elevation climbed, split times & a map of your route." But Fitbit's only answer is to manually record my data. How? That's why I bought this watch...So that I wouldn't have to carry my phone with me while I run. I am in the midst of marathon training, and having to carry my phone as a back-up is becoming increasingly annoying.
I feel this watch was falsely advertised to me, and the only thing that Fitbit has been able to offer to me so far is "hang tight, we're working on it!" What an awful customer experience. I spent $270 on this watch which at this point is a glorified version of my Fitbit Alta. Fitbit apparently only stands behind their products for 45 days. After that, good luck.

I have now noticed, as of this morning, that my Ionic does a power off and on even when I'm not in exercise mode...this appears to be more in the line of a power issue vs and exercise issue. My Ionic was fully charged when this happened today. Not the first time by the way. Anybody try the factory reset?

If you see what Garmin is offering in there sport watches, so much beter and so many more functiond and options. I feel everybody's pain and I am very dissapointed that I bougt a 350 euro watch Fitbit Ionic of which only the batterylive and durability is excellent, but no way the functions and options. Even the app is crap as I compare it with my previous Tom Tom. Althought I have less problems then most users here. But is very bad advertisement voor Fitbit.

Doesn't that defeat the purpose of the Ionic watch. The watch is used to track the activity as it has onboard GPS. I got this watch yesterday and used it for the first time on a run and had it crash out on me at about the 3km mark... This should not be happening!!!!!! I have had FITBITs in the past and I will never get one again. The main purpose is to track activity, not for the user to have to manually enter it themselves. Complete and utter garbage.

This happened to me yesterday on my first run... I noticed 3k into the run that it was no longer tracking.. I want to like fitbit but they are unable to put out a product that just works..

Hey everyone!
Once again, I appreciate the details and troubleshoot that you've tried. Currently, this is a bug that our team is investigating and working to resolve it. In the meantime, you may want to try the troubleshoot that has been provided by @SantiR above, restart your Ionic and manually log the activity. This will give you credit for it.
Your understanding and patience is appreciated.

But you do understand that the point is that I need my watch to operate in order to track the activity, correct? How do I know how many miles I have run if my watch quits during the middle of the run?

My Fitbit is also crashing during exercise only mine is bike riding. When I go bike riding I open the exercise app on the Fitbit and choose bike ride. I hit go and the timer begins, I ride for about 5 miles and then stop to take a break. I hit pause on my Fitbit and cool down a bit. About 5 minutes later I hit go on the Fitbit and take off I make sure the timer
Is running. When I get home I check my Fitbit and it has gone back to the clock and none of my bike riding has
registered. The Fitbit has crashed.
I checked online for others who have had problems with the Ionic Fitbit, I see from this forum that many people are having the same issue. Also I tried a restart and it worked for a few days then crashed again. The recent crash was yesterday. Like most people I bought the Ionic because I wanted to track my exercise, and I see from your statement that they are working on it, however this apparently has been a problem since October. Hopefully this issue will be corrected soon!

Well. Since we might have to wait forever, for a sollution for this problem, i have tried to narrow it down, and i have personal work around, that seems to keep it from crashing for 20 runs so far.
1. Keep it fully synced before you go. check the app.
2. Don't carry your phone, or if you do, turn off location services on your phone to block "fitbit to phone" sync during the excercise.
I have no clue why this works and it only works when i do both. 🙂

I am now getting a Garmin, once I can afford to change.
When contacting support on chat I felt ignored when I provided threads detailing the same issue.
I was told to re-start my tracker and see how it goes, basically.
Not the response you want after spending £250 on a watch. Not the kind of money most people can spend without a lot of thought.
After the issues with Deezer not syncing, Strava not syncing (I know these are fixed now but shouldn't have been an issue in the first place) and now it crashes during my runs my patience has finally worn out. And talking to someone who sounded like, or was, a bot did nothing to improve my mood.
