Key difference for me was the phone re-start. Had done the factory reset. Got the red x after that. Did the hard reset, hold all three buttons, then wait for the fitbit logo to disappear, then release lower right button. Uninstalled and re-installed app through Google Play Store. Did the forget on bluetooth for Ionic, turned off bluetooth, then the phone. Turned on the phone and ran setup through the app one more time, BOOM, bluetooth pairing, and then wi-fi. Firmware is updating as I type.

Best AnswerThanks for the tip. It worked with my Versa. Your post was more helpful than anything that their tech's provided on here.
Best AnswerHaving problems. The Fitbit says
Data not cleared Sync and try again. Show me how it can be cleared to work
Best AnswerIf the phone update doesn't work (like in my case), you can try the Windows 10 App, which is much more reliable. I believe Android versions of the app are NOT properly tested and many Android phones simply cut the BT connection during the LONG FW update (and yes, for some reason my FitBit never connects to a WiFi network so I have to perform the Firmware updates over Bluetooth). If you have to update the watch firmware over Bluetooth, always use a PC. It worked on my case!
