Device won't turn on - Water damage

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

For those of you suffering from a device that wont turn on, leave it to charge for a while and see if it feels warm.  If so check the sensors on the back.

Mine randomly died on me last week and I left it connected to the charger in the hope I may be able to bring it back to life.  It's still dead but the body was warm to the touch and there's lots of condensation inside where the sensors are.

Looks like some devices may not be as water resistant as they should be!

Hopefully of use to somebody.

Hi @Stav_98, welcome to the Community Forums!

Thanks for bringing this to our attention and for the details that were shared in your post. Let me share with you that our Fitbit Ionic is in fact swim-proof up to 50m, therefore, since you're experiencing an issue with it, please keep in touch with our Customer Support team because they informed me that assistance is being provided by them already.

I'll be here if you need anything else.

Hi @Stav_98,

I've posted several clarifications on the WR50 (Water Resistant certification of these devices). Not sure if those posts are still on the site over the last few weeks. Posts sometimes "mysteriously disappear".😉

To summarize Fitbit are obliged to stick by their claim these devices (Ionic, Versa etc) are swim proof)

At best these devices are ok for light swimming. But how do you quantify that? I will argue with anyone that doing laps of a pool, ocean swimming, or body and board surfing is not really light swimming - what many of these devices are subjected to.

A poster on this site reached into 3 feet of water. That was the end of his Ionic! 😮

Unfortunately WR50 isn't enough. However if these were certified to the WR100 rating that many non-diving watches are, then very few Ionic/Versa devices would flood.

I won't swim in my Ionic. I also had a Versa die after a swim. Fitbit replaced that even though I no longer had the purchase receipt. I was happy with their response. But I'm not expecting the same result if my Ionic were to flood.

These devices should have been manufactured to WR100 specifications.
