I’ll be buying an Ionic as soon as the Dexcom app is released. Looking forward to it!

Will it ever be able to synch with FreeStyle Libre system as well.

Hello, I just talked to someone from Fitbit today and was told there is no for sure answer yet as to whether fitbit will have an update available that would make current watches dexcom compatible or whether it would need to be a whole new watch. I am hoping to hear something more solid pretty soon as I am sure many of you are as well! I am have without a fitbit for a while now hoping to hold off for a dexcom compatible watch.

I'm so friggin tired of lack of transparency to dexcom/fitbit claims.  There were numerous articles back in 3QTR 2017, and now we've been in the DARK for months.  I bought a FITBIT Ionic for xmas expecting the compatibility with dexcom, and im ready to bail.  The watch sucks overall compared to other smartwatches with GPS.  Come out and indicate what is going on, please!

I'm in the same boat. I bought the Ionic, thinking the integration would soon be implemented. I just talked to someone at Fitbit customer support who said they have no timeline, that Dexcom is developing the app, so he put it on them. Really disappointing. Planning to return the watch at this point.

So I contacted Dexcom back on March 18th and asking about if they had any details about dexcom/fitbit and when we might potentioanlly know more. This is the response I got.

"Thank you for your recent email and apologies for the delayed response.

The Dexcom G5 Mobile app for Android will work with Android Wear watches that support custom watch faces and meet the Dexcom G5 Mobile app’s minimum OS and Android device compatibility requirements.

We currently support watches running Android Wear 1.3, 1.4, 1.5, and 2.0

An Android Wear watch will only communicate with an Android smart device, not directly with the Dexcom G5 Transmitter. Alerts, alarms, and other notifications will not be received on an Android Wear watch unless it is connected with a smart device. For example, if a patient has their watch on and goes out, leaving their smart device at home, they will not receive any CGM updates. An Android Wear watch syncs current CGM data from a smart device. There may be a brief delay before the watch face shows current information.

If you need assistance or have any other questions regarding android watches, please contact us at 844-607-8398"

I enjoy dexcom and fitbit but am frustrated there is not more open communication about this or a projected hopeful date or something atleast.

Now that Fitbit is releasing a new watch on the heels of the iconic and there's no esitmated time on the app, I'm wondering if it will be released for the new watch and not the ionic.  I'm in the same boat as some of you...bought the ionic at Christmas in anticipation for a release figuring that would be the 1st quarter or so.

Best Answer

Sadly, I think you're right. We'll never see dexcom compatibility . Fitbit was eager to comply but Dexcom fosters lengthy testing/approval. They (Dexcom) would argue otherwise , but they are negligent in fda submittal. Otherwise they would be more transparent...

That is a rude reply. Cookie cutter response that doesn't address the question. Lazy customer support. A mediocre 'bot' response.

I find it insulting, honestly.

Good morning everyone,

I just got another response from Dexcom regarding the Dexcom Fitbit watch situation. Copied below is the email I got this morning,

Hi Ashley,

Thank you for your reply and again we apologize for the delay in our response.

We are currently working towards compatibility for the FitBit Ionic, however it is not compatible yet and unfortunately we do not have an ETA at this time.

To clarify, any Android watch and even the FitBit Ionic once compatible will still require your android phone in the mix to work. The only watch that will in the future have the capability to work as a receiver without a smart phone is the Apple Watch Series 3 with cellular support.

Currently, the Apple Watch Series 3 with Watch iOS 4 even with Cellular support (hardware-wise) currently still requires the iPhone in the mix to work and to communicate with your Transmitter (grey pod). We are currently working on a solution to support this feature (Apple Watch Series 3). This will require significant development, testing and FDA approval. We do not have an ETA at this time as to when this would be available. We are working as quickly as we can and will notify patients when it is available.

Please feel free to keep an eye on the Canada Dexcom website’s compatibility page as it is updated daily.

If you need assistance or have any other questions regarding android watches, please contact us at 844-607-8398 and reference 180403-000245.

Sincerely,

Looks like they have not abandoned the attempt so hopefully we will see something soon.

"Dexcom**: Dexcom helps people better manage their diabetes with continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) products and tools for patients. Via the Dexcom app being developed for Fitbit Ionic and Versa, glucose data will be relayed from the Dexcom CGM to the wrist, making it easier for users to see their Dexcom CGM data alongside Fitbit activity data to better manage their condition."

It's been almost a year since this post and still no information.

I find it quite amateur and unprofessional to brush off your paying supporters with such generic replies with zero information.

You are not going to be found liable for making statements such as:

"Yes we are still actively working on an app."

"We would hope to have a release in X months."

"It will, or will not work with existing watches." Or "We are unsure at this point what hardware will be compatible."

To say nothing shows a complete lack of understanding a relationship between a customer and a supplier. To say nothing of the lack of common decency.

I truly hope you will come to your senses quite soon and share with your supporters, before they all get tired of waiting and move on. I have two smartwatches myself that both have Dexcom on them. I daily ask myself why I'm not using them. It won't be long I'm afraid.

If ur waiting so long, it look like it maybe a while. Only apple ecosystems at the current time has an official watch app and continue to be the only approved wearable device
