Hello, I purchased Ionic less than 2 months brand new from Fitbit site. It works fine, except one thing: it is always showing heart rate even when I am not wearing it for long time. I believe it is defective. Can anyone help me with this please?

Inferior design of Ionic must be improved to automatically detect if it is being worn. No sane person would go through burden of manually turning off heart rate sensor every time you take off tracker from wrist. Selling this junk and will invest in better tracker.

Hey there @SunsetRunner, it's nice to see you around here. Welcome!
Sometime the Fitbit Ionic can't detect you have taken it off, and it sees what it thinks is your pulse. This is can be explained in this article. Note that if you remove your tracker but it keeps moving, for example if you put it in a pocket or backpack, when you are driving or when your tracker is close to a fan, the tracker may display an erroneous heart rate readings.
And there are some factors that can affect the heart rate readings. Movement, temperature, humidity, stress level, physical body position, caffeine intake, and medication are some of the few things that can affect it.
To prevent this turn off heart rate tracking when the tracker is not in use, log into your dashboard and go to Settings > Devices to turn your Heart Rate Tracking to "Off."
Have you experienced this again? If you have, I recommend performing a restart on your Ionic.
Give this a shot and let me know the outcome!

Connect it to the charger for a minute or two. Always work for me.

Mr. Hans, that's what I did. I remove Ionic from wrist and connect charging cable to it. Even after 4 hours on charger it continues to display heart rate (same rate that was at moment when removed from wrist). I can imagine that it is easy to stop heart rate sensor whenever charging state is detected, or when there's no skin contact.
