Fitbit Ionic will not charge

Since yesterday I have been able to charge my fitbit Ionic at all. It comes to life when plugged in, shows as charging but the charge level remains at 0%.

 

So far I have tried:

  • cleaning the connectors (both on watch and on cable),
  • using various usb ports on computer as well as wall charger
  • soft restart
  • hard reset
  • various soft restart after that.

 

Now the fitbit is wiped ready to set up, except that with low battery it will not update/load the firmware (I also cannot set up WiFi).

 

I am a bit at a loss for things to try. If anybody has a tip please let me know.

Oh and additional detail (although makes sense considering that the battery level seems to remain at 0%, 😞 the fitbit ionic comes to life when I plug it in (any charger will do, whether wall or any usb ports of my laptop) but it will immediately go off if i unplug.
