Fitbit OS 2.2 - Ionic Firmware Release (32.12.19)

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

Hi, everyone! I am excited to announce the release of Fitbit OS 2.2! (Firmware Version: 32.12.19) At this time, we've released Fitbit OS 2.2 to a small group of Fitbit Ionic and Fitbit Versa users.

WHAT'S CHANGED?

Please check out this help article to see what's new in this update.

IS THIS UPDATE AVAILABLE TO ME?

This update has only been released to a small group of Fitbit Ionic and Fitbit Versa users. If you have not yet received an update notification and wish to force the update, you can give the watch a FACTORY RESET and then follow steps 1 - 4 below. Please make sure you sync the watch before performing the reset so that all your current data transfer over. Factory resetting your device clears all data from the watch including music, Fitbit Pay information, and apps. Historical Fitbit data will still be available in the Fitbit App.

HOW DO I UPDATE?

Step by step instructions for updating your Ionic can be found here. We recommend updating your Ionic over a home Wi-Fi network as this can greatly reduce the time it can take to get set up. For more information on connecting your Ionic to Wi-Fi, check out this article.

If you run into trouble updating your Ionic, please follow these steps:

  1. Restart the watch.
  2. "Remove" the watch from your account inside of the Fitbit app.
  3. "Forget" the watch from your phone's Bluetooth settings (along with any other Fitbit devices paired to your phone)
  4. Try the update again.

Looking forward to hearing everyone's feedback on the latest release. If you have questions, please let me know in this thread!

Two messages from @fitbitsupport were posted on Twitter within five minutes of each other.

About half an hour ago: We’re aware of an issue that may cause failures during setup, syncing, and firmware updates. Our team is working to get resolved as quickly as possible. We appreciate your patience!

Five minutes later: This issue affecting setup, firmware updates and syncing has been resolved!

So the update might be coming down the pipe soon.

Well, after two full days since last charge, my Ionic is at 48%. That's after continuous wear, except for the shower. It's tracked workouts and sleep as well as just normal activity. So, I would say battery life is pretty good after firmware update. It's at least as advertised (4 days).

I decided to perform a factory reset to get the latest version.  I've been to this rodeo before so 1st I removed all the apps that were not on the watch originally, then unpaired, then removed the ionic from the app.  Then performed the reset on the Ionic.

I updated via Wi-Fi.  It did error several times, but I noticed this time the download picks up from where it left off.  Previously it restarted from the beginning every time, so I usually would have to switch to Bluetooth (which takes 8 hours with my phone).  Staying with Wi-Fi I updated in under an hour with 3 or 4 restarts.

After the update my battery life is back to 4 days and notifications reach the watch faster than before.  I still have the same weather sync issues using Windows 10 mobile, but I'm resigned to the fact that this will likely never work correctly.

Overall happy with the update, thanks.

That's sounds unnecessary and shouldn't happen just to update a watch. Can you imagine if people had to do all this for the Apple watch? For me, I'll wait till it tells me to update in the app and when I don't have do hard resets and stuff

I don’t see anywhere to get the new update. I've taken my ionic of the app and back on the app. I've hard reset it too and nothing about the new firmware. I've had it.... I can even respond to a reply and Fitbit has not addressed this in the new update.  I'm going with an Apple watch. I get twice as much at the same cost

Get your Apple watch already. No need to wait! Enjoy the great single day battery life and lack of sleep tracking. Perfect for a fitness watch!!!

I had actually hit reply to another message which said that their heart rate was no longer correct and had dropped by 10 beats. After the update my heart is also inconsistent and has dropped. I am not sure how to fix that on the Fitbit. I’ve even had several people at the gym take it and they’ve said the Fitbit is wrong.

It does not seem to be out for General release yet.  I haven’t gotten it either. This happens sometimes.  They are still working out kinks, or some people get the update delayed. I remember my wife and I got one update a couple days apart from eachother.

Hello!

Is there a published timeline for the general release of the update?

also, are those the only few improvements?  Have our constant asking for cadence alerts, integrated intervals, weather app changes, etc remained un-granted?

Please @ me with an answer in a reasonable time frame.

I mean as long as your Fitbit is working, you don't really need the update. I'm still two updates behind because all I care about is it tracking my runs and biking. It works great as a fitness watch, the clutter of my Apple watch UI makes it a formal event only thing.
