Fitbit Update 1/10/19:
Hi all! Big thanks to everyone for your feedback on the release of Fitbit OS 3.0!
Since the majority of users have now updated to 3.0, I will be closing this thread from further comments to help keep our community discussions on-topic.
If you are experiencing an issue outside of the firmware update process, I invite you to start a new thread on this forum and we will be happy to assist you there. Thanks again and happy stepping!
Fitbit Update 12/26:
Hey, everyone! We're aware that some of you may have noticed a fast battery drain on your Ionic watches after completing this firmware update. Our team is investigating the root cause of this issue and whether it was caused by this update or other factors are involved.
In the meantime, if you're experiencing this problem please try a restart on the device then consider switching to a Fitbit made clock face! Many 3rd party clockfaces (especially those with animations) are known to use up more battery. If you try this out and are still seeing a fast battery drain, we can connect you with Customer Support for next steps or you can reach out to them and create a case.
We look forward to getting you all back on track!
Fitbit Update 12/22:
We've released Fitbit OS 3.0 out to 100% of users. Please make sure you have the latest version of the Fitbit app (2.84) before downloading the newest firmware.
We're excited for you all to have the newest Fitbit OS, but please let us know if you have any questions about this update. Happy Holidays, everyone!
Hi, everyone!
I am excited to announce the release of Fitbit OS 3.0! (Firmware Version: 27.33.1.30)
We've started to roll out this update to 20% of Ionic users. This is a progressive rollout, and all Ionic users can expect to have it soon. We roll out releases in phases as a cautionary measure so that we can monitor performance closely and make adjustments if needed.
WHAT'S CHANGED?
Please check out this help article to see what's new in this update.
HOW DO I UPDATE?
Step by step instructions for updating your Ionic can be found here. We recommend updating your Ionic over a home Wi-Fi network as this can greatly reduce the time it can take to get set up. For more information on connecting your Ionic to Wi-Fi, check out this article.
If you run into trouble updating your Ionic, please follow these steps:
If anyone isn't seeing the Today app after updating, please try the following:
1. Make sure you're running the newest version of the Fitbit app.
2. Connect to Wi-Fi in the Fitbit app, plug your Ionic into the charger and let it sit. This will automatically update the Today app.
Looking forward to hearing everyone's feedback on the latest release. If you have questions, please let me know in this thread!

For me update was successful without problem. I want to understand how to add another stats to Fitbit Today. According Whats new section on this update we can add water and other shortcuts to Today. When i go to settings i can find only Core Stats, Hourly Steps and Hearth rate.

Well after several attempts, using the Fitbit app on an Android phone and two Windows 10 laptops, my Ionic is finally updated (using Bluetooth - using WiFi always failed). And now the Ionic won't sync to any device. Really, this is getting beyond a joke.

I have downloaded this new Firmware release and I have reinstalled the app on my phone but the my ionic STILL won't stay synced!!!! This is so frustrating......I was able to get it manually by unpairing it EVERY time......now it doesn't even want to do it that way.....I shouldn't have to go through all these steps to get it synced.......

I have a similar problem. Can enter Water Consumption on the Iconic but it doesn't sync to the Android App.

After a year of watching FitBit flounder around indefinitely with the most basic things I have come to the conclusion that this company simply doesn't have the skills to make a smartwatch. The watch itself is ok but the simplest of things in the software/firmware implementation are buggy, poorly designed or flat out broken. Unless Fitbit gets serious about fixing major quality issues they are never going to catch up with Apple or the other smart watches and be competitive.
As an example I was excited to see some new stats in the Today view. However the simplest of things do not work. For example the sleep measurement. I wake up in the morning and look at my sleep stats and they are not updated (show dashes). I have to get my phone and manually resync the watch multiple times before these values display on the watch. Huh? The watch measured my sleep right? Why does it need to sync to my phone before the today view shows my stats!!! Seriously, who designed this?
On the other hand I enter the water measurement on the phone and the app doesnt show that even if I sync the app. These sorts of glaring broken things shouldn't happen in an expensive smart watch. I will certainly not buy another fitbit.

@noel-ionic Looking at what things are getting broken or that new features are not working as expected I think the problem is that nobody tests anything. They just hope for the best because what could possibly go wrong. I can't believe that syncing water ( which is a new feature of Today app ) or how update affects most commonly used apps wouldn't be detected by thorough testing. The progressive release also looks like driven by lack of testing ( if something goes wrong then at least for fewer users only ). This is second firmware update causing issues. The previous one was quietly pulled ( I've never seen even an option to install that update). I have no doubts at this point that users are just guinea pigs for Fitbit. Why pay QA testers when users can do it for free.

Yep. Only had a Fitbit for a month and have come to similar conclusions. Not a lot of true beta testing before being released to the masses -> but instead the 10% progressive release to users seem to be the actual beta testers. The number of problems popping up is quite high and quite repetitive on this forum.
Fortunately do not have any big ongoing problems like many report with this replacement. But am not that confident it will stay that way. In my view the product is very good for a first try -> but Fitbit should take user input much more seriously. Seems most that become unhappy and disillusioned just drop the brand and switch to Garmin or Apple.
Def beta testing and proper QC are really lacking. That is very apparent from real hands on use and reports posted. So easy to fix with good management and solid protocol controls -> but that does not seem to be their priority. Really too much talk and not enough action is the problem. The same old canned replies fall on deaf ears now. Users want known issues actually solved. Not just guesses that updates like 3.0 solve them. The guessing game is not helping matters at all -> but instead simply causing more user distrust. But as always -> it is what it is.

Go the update, don't see anything different except that my watch face disappeared and I can't load a new one.

Further to my update I noticed during my first run that the watch lost its gps signal but found the gps again almost instantly...super stoked as before the update my watch would not ever be able to reconnect to sattelites.. The only issue I have are some old notifications that I cannot clear from the watch.

Got the Ionic for Christmas and spent the last days reading up on everything OS 3.0 in anticipation of the gift of my family. I was totally worried about all the possible issues with the update "out of the box", but there was absolutely no problem at all.
Got the device, put it to charging, connected with the most recent iOS app and 30 minutes later I had an up to date IONIC. So it's not all doom and gloom.
So here is one happy new Fitbit customer. Well, at least so far... Hello everyone!

I must admit it's pretty disgusting for a company to act in such poor manner had the watch month and had nothing but issues and I can't return it to the store as they say go to fitbit but fitbit will only take it back if bought threw them so basicly stuck with a watch that is no fit for purpose and certainly not as advertised
