Fitbit Update: 10/9
Hi everyone,
We’re excited to announce the release of Fitbit OS 4.0.2, available for Ionic (Firmware Version: 27.68.9.15).
We've begun releasing this new firmware to customers. This is a progressive rollout which means everyone will receive it at different stages until it has been completely released to all users. We roll out releases in phases as a cautionary measure so that we can monitor performance closely and make adjustments if needed.
*Firmware releases are not distributed based on region or location and can reach anyone no matter where you reside. We do not recommend performing a factory reset to force the update to your device as your data will be lost and you may not get the update. Please be patient and wait until you see the update banner inside of the Fitbit app to begin the firmware download.
WHAT’S NEW AND FIXED
This release includes bug fixes and improvements.
HOW DO I UPDATE?
Step by step instructions for updating your Ionic can be found here.
If you run into any trouble updating your Ionic, I recommend reviewing these troubleshooting tips.
We appreciate your patience while we work to roll this out to everyone.

I don't recall it being sold as as a $200+ device with the caveat that cos its not $500 you should expect to have to replace it within 18 months!

I did mine over Bluetooth and it worked fine.
Few people reported that when the fitbit asks you to calibrate with the charger connected, it bricked the device even though the update was successful.

@benedikt.ebli Thank you for replying again. Now with the newly received replacement, I am out of warranty, which Fitbit did 100% honor and they were pretty good to work with regarding the first firmware bricked issue I experienced. I'm still going to wait just a little while longer to perform the update but when I do I will make sure it is with WiFi and not bluetooth. I did bluetooth the last time and that might of been the issue. Thanks again. Have a great day.
@Iain_K - as for how I avoided doing the update: I just manually have been ignoring the suggestion telling me to update in the app. Actually, when I was in the app this morning I noticed the banner telling me to upgrade had disappeared. As far as "you'll eventually have to upgrade". As with any other software I do understand that in order for everything to run smoothly you upgrade so that the device can keep up with your phone upgrades etc.

Hi everybody, I appreciate all the feedback and the time you've taken to perform the troubleshooting steps suggested along the thread.
If you've already contacted our support team, I suggest to keep communication open with them. They will be glad to keep assisting you.
If you're having issues with your Ionic not responding when you try to charge it, I'd suggest to clean the contacts of your Ionic; you need to this regularity with all devices. These contacts can become obstructed by microscopic dirt or debris that prevents them from making a good connection to the charger. Use a toothpick or toothbrush to clean the charging contacts; do not scrape them with anything metal because this may damage the plating and result in corrosion.
We also recommend plugging your charging cable into a USB port on your computer or other low-energy device. If necessary, you can use a UL-certified USB wall charger. Don't use a USB hub or battery pack to charge, and only use the charging cable that came with your tracker.
For more help, you can take a look of the steps on this article: Why isn't my battery charging on my Fitbit device? And as a last step, follow the instructions to perform the factory reset on your Ionic: How do I erase my Fitbit device? on your Ionic. This reset will erase everything on your device, you will have to download all your apps, music and clock face as well.
You can also try what mentioned @RicardoFitbit here. But if you already performed all the suggested steps, please let me know so I can request a case for you. I'll be around.
Keep me posted on the outcome.

I thought I would like this update as it seemed to look/react better. However, now my battery life is less than 2 days. This is unacceptable.

Holy crap. I'm physically ill after reading the posts in this thread. Thankfully, the update worked on my Ionic - at least so far. The responses from *FitBit personnel are simply repulsive. Somewhere in the thread one of them said "eventually you will HAVE to apply the firmware update". Seriously? FitBit is going to FORCE the firmware update that apparently has a high likelihood of bricking the device - at no real consequence to FitBit. This is just outrageous.
I've been quite ticked off that the Iconic music -> bluetooth headphones feature is a complete joke and doesn't work and yet they continue to market this as a "feature".
I will never EVER purchase another FitBit device of any sort. I've never dealt with a company that treats their customers with such disrespect.

it’s more common than Fitbit makes it out to be .just read the threads
i w posting on Twitter, Facebook ,IG and Fitbit Feeds on all the problems that the firmware has caused .

Here is what I think caused the problem .At some point during the firmware upgrade the firm aware causes the watch to go to sleep mode thus breaking WiFi, Bluetooth connection between the phone and Fitbit .

@Ecuamer That's not what happened to me. The firmware completely installed, got the green check, all was working. Went to sleep and woke up with a brick.

My Ionic has frozen while syncing. None of the troubleshooting techniques have worked. I cannot even shut the phone down, it keeps flashing the syncing icon. I contacted customer support, who tried one technique, which failed, then offered me 25% discount on a new product. Horrible support for their products. I am hugely disappointed.

I think downgrade is not possible.
For all with battery drain issues. Ensure you are using a Fitbit clockface and restart your device. In past this often helped.

Fitbit private twitter message - Thanks for getting back to us. Appreciate that you have checked our community page about this. We have confirmed that this has nothing to do after updating the firmware on your Ionic. This has to do with the mechanism inside your device that prevents it from not turning on. Let us know if you have any questions.
I do not believe this at all.
