It simply doesn’t work as good as an Apple Watch!

Interesting "Pure Evil". My ionic doesn't have that. I have "run, bike, swim, treadmill, weights, int. trainer and work out". That is it. I can see no option to add extra excercise types (and I tried using the cog in the top left to add!

Regarding finding the 12-24 hour settings in the personal settings on the app / website, I did get there eventually (after much searching in the fitbit forums). Of course the Casio that I had 30 years ago had that format change setting in the watch (where I would have expected it)!

Again, what you’ve written it’s nor true.

Most probably, it reflects some problems related to your expectations or your phone.

The fact that I do not experience anything from your list ( except painful music uploading)  supports this idea.

It does not mean that Ionic is a perfect device, but from my experince as a fitness tracker it’s much better than AW is.

@SunsAnvil,  perhaps you should look at the app Device Settings -> Exercise Shortcuts.

Obviously you want them be as your Casio 30 years ago, which they are not.

This is your main problem.

You expect, as my wife does, everything be working exactly as you assume.

Unfortunately it’s not always true.

To change to 24h took me 20 minutes.

Not becaus I’m smart. I simply did not have any expectations and simply followed instructions.

It is true. It is simply that you don't have the same user experience. I could upload a video to you tube with me scrilling through the excercises with no elyptical to prove my point but why should I.

If you can explain to me the Starva app, I would love to hear what I am doing wrong but it simply seems to do nothing at all.

The music functionality was the main factor for me chosing this device over the charge and yet it doesn't work and you seem to experience some problems also.

Ok, after 3 days I got the weather app to recognise locations but the banking / credit card app only recognises 2 cards (which I don't have) while apple pay and Amazon accept my cards.

Go to your device settings, select your Ionic:

I don't mind answering questions, but I'm sure many other folks would've also been happy to help out as well.

I'm just puzzled about the disposition that if you can't find it or figure out on your own, it must be a flawed product.

You really didn’t check supported banks before buying?

if this is the deal breaker for you you should have done this before.

I honestly do not understand what’s your problem.

No one said that Ionics as smart watches are better than AW are.

There’s no need to serve as captain obvious.

I have used fitbit watches since the fitbit one first came out. I still like fitbit but recently switched to Garmin. Only 1 reason. I train hard and need an external HRM. All the makers of wrist based optical sensor have problems with interval training.  Why fit does not support either Bluetooth smart or ant+ is a problem and befuddles me.

@indianwin2001 Similar story here, I started with Flex, then Force, Surge, and Blaze. I've been using a Garmin bike computer for over 2 years, tracking the 6-10 hours a week that I put in on the bike (great stress relief, excellent cardio workout). I train hard and discovered that an external HRM is necessary to accurately track HR while cycling outside. Plus I want my power tracked, as training with power - the actual work my body applies to the pedals - is superior to training by HR. And power produces more accurate calorie burn estimates.

Oddly, Fitbit seems completely uninterested in supporting BLE/ANT+ sensors and HRMs.

Yesterday for the first time, I authorized Fitbit to sync with Strava. I did a 70 minute ride that included a stop at my bike shop, for a total of 90 minutes tracking on the bike computer. Here are the calorie estimates:

- 770 calories estimated by Garmin

- 845 calories estimated by Strava (Garmin pushed ride to Strava)

- 1118 calories estimated by Fitbit (Fitbit pulled the ride from Strava)

How can Fitbit be so wrong on calories?!

Fitbit added 33% more calories!!! My Fitbit BMR is 72 calories per hour, or 108 calories for 90 minutes. I can possibly see Fitbit taking Strava's 845 calories and adding 108 cals, for a total of 953. But I can't imagine what Fitbit did to come up with 1118 calories. I use an Aria scale, and manually add my weight to Garmin and Strava. All three have my correct weight.

My Garmin calorie estimates are accurate, I'm able to maintain or lose weight by counting calories and using BMR plus Garmin calorie estimates.

p.s. if Garmin pushes to Endomondo, then Endomondo will create a manual workout in Fitbit and the Fitbit activity has my Garmin calorie estimate. I've been using this to sync bike rides to Fitbit for a long time and it works well.

Pure Evil, I will keep looking but I do not have a device setting option. Remember I am running this via WIndows and IOS not Android and mostly IOS becaause they are portable and my windows desktop is not.

In the end I have a poor experience whether you guys believe that to be the case or not. The Starva app seems not to work. Music not, other syncing issues. It's just not what I had expected from a flagship product.

I guess I just have high standards and expectations.

@SunsAnvil,

You should be able to access this from any browser.  To access your device settings, go to this web page for your settings.

The Ionic should be among your devices listed on the left, click on it like this:

fitbit-ionic-settings.jpg

Once you do that the page should reflect your Ionic device settings like this, expand the Exercise Shortcuts section like this:

fitbit-ionic-settings-detailed.jpg

This will allow you to change your exercise shortcuts:

fitbit-ionic-shortcuts.JPG

Then click Save and sync your device.

That said, allow me to make an observation.  On one of your responses you suggested perhaps you should've gotten a Charge 2, like your wife.  Well, the Charge 2 doesn't behave all that differently with respect to some of your complaints (12/24 hour setting and device settings, for instance), and you basically implied that your wife has had few issues with hers.  So we can only conclude that:

  • Your wife hasn't had a need to change any of the settings on her Charge 2.
  • She's more tech savvy than you are.
  • Fitbit products are not that flawed or difficult to use.

Just my 2¢.

I don't  understand why they won't support ANY external sensors, but after 5 years with fitbit, it made me leave-- I feel fitbit is geared towards just steps and general light walking and has become a product not at all geared for athletics

If it were 75% support watch and 25% smart water you say, than Fitbit should not advertised it as a smart watch.

Im buying a fitness watch, maybe even tonight, but very soon mainly for heart rate.... but after seeing the youtube reviews from october, the same issues it has is still here on the forum being talked about to this day.  The promised "many apps" for the holidays doesn't really seem like "many" at all.  And still no Spotify?!?!?!  I am worrying about getting this Ionic and might just go with a blaze... 😕 even though im getting 10% discount from a distrubutor.... i was going to buy this fitbit Ionic tonight, but just wanted to check online 1 last time about up-to-date reviews, and what other better place then the FitBit forum.... im very disappointed in customer service (giving no updates.... really there is no updates on the CURRENT released product, only false promises like "many new apps to come by holidays", and when they talk about new streaming services, what was it, for only outside US?!?!?!?!?, it seems they need to learn customer service with there forums TBH, they give no detailed updates on a consistant basis, only announcements, there is a difference... and im shocked they are making a new Ionic when the old one not even 1 year old still has issues it was facing on release date...
