Gps not available on swimming with ionic

I have the ionic and I have read other posts on how to get the GPS on for open water swimming. I have checked the exercise shortcuts page and the GPS button is not on the swimming page. It is available on all other exercise ie walking cycling but not swimming. ? 

Is there any other advice. My main use for the watch is to record my open water swimming so I am desperate for help.

The Ionic does not support open water swimming per the following thread:

 

Ionic can it track open water swimming ?
