I got my Ionic last night, took an hour to set up and get synching (probably deserves a separate post - seems I am not the only one with this hard-to-setup issue).
I want to go for my usual run today, but when you click on the Strava app, it tells me that I don't have any recorded runs and to go for a run, but does not offer a way to start recording.
Am I to assume that I track the run under Exercise -> Run and after the run it will sync over?
(I have had Strava Premium for some time and been trying to get reliable suffer scores from my Fitbit Blaze - but it could not connect to the phone more often than not).
How do I track a run on the Ionic such that it will go to Strava and give me heart rate and suffer score?

I haven't received my Ionic yet, but I remember reading that the Strava app can only be used to display historical data, eg. Previous runs, cycling etc.
The best way to record a strava activity is to make sure your fitbit and strava accounts are connected, then start a run or cycle using the fitbit exercise menu. I believe only activities with GPS enabled will sync over to Strava.

Ok, that's pretty much what I was just guessing would happen..... Will test it out at lunch time (3.5 hours) and report back.

You don't track it with Strava, you track it on the Ionic. Go to strava.fitbit.com to setup auto syncing Fitbit runs to Strava. The Ionic's Strava app is for a quick look at previous runs, and comparing your previous times on a certain segment.

It took about 2.5 hours (seriously, the Ionic is becoming known as having a glacial sync speed), but my run showed up in Strava.
So, can confirm. Visit that link on the accepted answer and forget the Strava app (its pretty much useless on such a small screen). Track your run with the Ionic Exercise -> Run (or Cycle) and start and stop it from the watch. Sooner or latter it will show up in Strava with your suffer score if you have Strava Premium.
GPS accuracy and HR accuracy seem pretty good.

Thanks for testing this out. So, Strava runs/rides only show up for exercises (activities) recorded on the Ionic (exercise --> run/bike)? For some reason, I was hoping to see previous rides (and my friends rides) show up in the watch app, like the feed on the Strava site. No go for this?

My Ionic and strava accounts are linked and this mornings run has been recorded both on fitbit and my strava accounts. However, when I click on the strava app on the Ionic, it says that there has been no recent activity. The run was recorded by the Ionic, so what am I doing wrong?

Hey there @IainCostes, it's nice to see you around the forums! Well, since you own a Fitbit Ionic, use the Strava app on your watch to see your last 10 run, bike, and swim exercises tracked by Strava.
Go to strava.fitbit.com to setup auto syncing Fitbit runs to Strava. The Ionic's Strava app is for a quick look at previous runs, and comparing your previous times on a certain segment.
No need to have the mobile device with you when running apps, as they work as standalone apps on the watch (you don't track it with Strava, you track it on the Ionic).
Hope this helps!

Noticed the same thing. I got the Ionic Strava app working after I authorized Strava account in Fitbit app and synced Ionic right after this (go to dashboard tab and pull down the view). Now going back to Ionic’s Strava app the screen was momentarily black but showed my latest runs in a moment. You have to have a Internet connection for this to work.

Must admit, I can see no benefit to the Strava app. If I want to review my Strava data, I'll do it on my phone, where I can drill down a lot more too.

So just for my understanding , you can't use the ionic to record a run on strava? You have to do that through the run function on the ionic .
Will it then upload that run automatically on strava if you have synced accounts ?

On strava premium, I have the strava beacon which allows my family to see my exact location from a home device . Does the ionic have any such feature ? If not, it still means I have to carry my phone with me.

No it doesn't. Even if it did you would still need to carry your phone as the Ionic hasn't got its own Internet connection, it uses the phones via Bluetooth.

Thanks for your help. I thought that may be the issue since the fitbit app says that my Strava account isn't authorised. However when I try to authorise via the fitbit app, it sends me to a strava log in page, then to an authorise page and then to a fit bit developer page without doing anything! I have authorised my fitbit account from the strava site but this doesn't work.

I'm having the same/similar problem. I've authorized wherever I could many times and the app on the ionic just says there has been no recent runs. I just ran Thursday with my ionic.
Strava website shows everything.

Just to clarify, fitbit and strava apps are linked and runs are being logged by the fit bit app and strava app but they are not showing on the Strava App on the Watch.
