How do I track a run with Strava?

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

I got my Ionic last night, took an hour to set up and get synching (probably deserves a separate post - seems I am not the only one with this hard-to-setup issue).

I want to go for my usual run today, but when you click on the Strava app, it tells me that I don't have any recorded runs and to go for a run, but does not offer a way to start recording.

Am I to assume that I track the run under Exercise -> Run and after the run it will sync over?
(I have had Strava Premium for some time and been trying to get reliable suffer scores from my Fitbit Blaze - but it could not connect to the phone more often than not).

How do I track a run on the Ionic such that it will go to Strava and give me heart rate and suffer score?

Have you tried to restart Ionic?

fitbit say that you have to log the run from the strava app and not the fitbit for it to show on the ionic display. I have to say that's pretty useless. Why would you have a fitbit on your wrist and then use your phone to log the run? Also runs logged on both the fitbit and strava at the same time wont sync!

I'm wondering why I spent £350 on this watch??

Totally agree - why can't you use the Strava app on your Ionic to record a run - surely that's what an app cooperation is!!

As it stands, the Strava app is totally useless on the Ionic, as all it can do is show data that has to be authorised first from another device - well, if you're going to another device, you might as well get the data from there!

I'm having the same/similar problem.  I've authorized wherever I could many times and the app on the ionic just says there has been no recent runs.  I just ran Thursday with my ionic.

Strava website shows everything.

Yes I've noticed if I authorise the Strava app and then go back, and then click the gear again all the info has gone and it just has the option to authorise again. In other words the settings/account doesn't stick.

That just doesn't make sense. The point of the watch is to start runs from it.  Guess I'll uninstalled the strava app from the watch to save the screen real estate.

Fitbit, you should work with strava to make this app useful to fitbit users if it is going to be on the watch.

Hello,

I was having problems with this earlier. Getting stuff to work in the Ionic is a bit of a pain in the **ahem**.

In order for your runs to show up on the strava app in the ionic, YOU must first have a strava account. You must link it to your ionic by going in to your fitibit app in your cellphone. Click your ionic watch on the top left corner (ios), then click apps. followed by clicking the setting icon next to strava. You will then see something that says "authorization state". If it is unauthorized, then you need to link via a link below it. After you have authorized you strava with fitbit ionic your run information should show up in the ionic without having your phone while running.

Thanks for this. It does say that strava is unauthorised but when I click the link you describe it takes me to a fitbit developer page and doesn't link my accounts. I keep going round in circles.

I did all that... Strava installed, authorized every way i can (in strava, in Fitbit, in the Fitbit ionic app via the Fitbit application)... i'll try installing the app again and see... but never got it to work..

So, if i start my run activities through the Fitbit watch, i should get the data in the strava app on the Fitbit?

Once you click authorize you should see a page like this. You must then
enter you log in account. This will then automatically take you to the
Fitbit app where it would say authorized. From here you should be able to
see your runs on your Fitbit ionic without having you phone. Here is my run
from yesterday.

I'm having a bit of an issue where recent runs do not show up at all within the Strava app on my Ionic.  They're there in Strava, on both my phone and the full web version.  This is after several syncs for my Ionic and restarting Strava and the Fitibt apps on my phone.  Based entirely on my own experience, the Strava app integration needs a bit more refinement.

Thank you.

I've authorized fitbit to sync with strava and that was not showing data on the ionic, then, I followed your instructions and now the ionic strava app is authorized as well and it is showing the workout info on my ionic.

What would be helpfull is to have key data showing DURING workout (avg speed, hearth rate, time, distance) that is what I was expecting from the strava app in the watch.

Thanks.

thx for these instructions - worked perfectly for me and fixed the problem.

Two thoughts as a result:

  1. why don't Fitbit provide instructions as clearly as this, rather than wait for the community to work it out?!
  2. Strava only syncs with Fitbit after a manually-forced sync. Why doesn't it automatically sync as soon as it sees your Phone after an activity?

Hi Can you let me know what you did as mine still doesn't work?

Thanks

I have the exact same problem. The Fitbit app doesn't seem to hold and store the Auth creds.

My strava app not working on my new ionic either. I cant get it to authorize and stay authorized just like has been previously described.

I had the same issue when trying to authorize through an Iphone. I tried it with Android and it worked first time. I don't know if this is the same for others but I found it a bit weird.

I completed the authorization process and turned my ionic off and then back on and my runs didn't show up, so I gave up. But a few days later I clicked on the strava app on my ionic and my last run showed on the watch. Not sure what did it, but it now appears to be working.
