Incorrect distance recorded on fitbit ionic

I have been running with a garmin forerunner for over 2 years now. I have recently purchased a fitbit ionic and on two occasions i have run with the watch i have noticed the distance to be different to the garmin.

E.g.

Garmin

distance 5.89 km

time 26:21

pace 4:28 min/km

Fitbit

distance 5.60km

time 26.40

pace 4:45 min/km

settings run detect is turned off

I manually start the run and use GPS

Please can someone advise?

My IONIC says 3.51 miles.  Steps times stride length yields 5.63 miles.  Treadmill said over 4.5 miles and the IONIC said less than 3.  Does a company rep ever respond to these posts?

I own a surge, and I’m here because I’m contemplating getting an ionic. My surge always says considerably less than the treadmill. I can understand that, cause I believe it would be hard for it to judge treadmill distance.

I have had multiple watches TomTom, Garmin and Fitbit Ionic. If you want an advanced professional running watch, consider getting yourself a Garmin. The distance discrepancy is a big flaw.

The same for me. I usually run with a Garmin 235 and the difference between the Ionic is evidence. The ionic record more miles...

I been using an elliptical which says I walked 3.15 miles, but my ionic says I walked 1.85 miles.

D/oes Fitbit have any comments or suggestions for these discrepancies in measurig distance????? on the Ionic versus other divices ????

On the elliptical, the Ionic would be using steps/stride for distance. Since you most likely have your hands on the elliptical poles, steps will not register correctly thus shows short mileage. Not sure how to improve on that since it's a wrist worn step counter. Just my thoughts.
