When the Ionic is synced while I'm biking, is it using data from my cell phone? 

 

Why doesn't the time biking with the Ionic synced increase the "steps" count? I realize that they aren't steps, but it should translate the biking into a step value.

It is not using what is on your cellphone. It syncs what is on the device it self
