Fitbit Update 08/23/2018: Hi everyone!

Just wanted to thank you all for your participation in this thread.

Since the majority of Ionic users have successfully updated to OS 2.1.1 (v32.10.20) I have decided to close this topic to further posts.

If you still have not updated your Ionic to OS 2.1.1, check out this post for some best practices on how to update your device.

If you are experiencing an issue with your Ionic unrelated to the firmware-up process, I invite you to start a new topic on the community or find a related topic.

Thanks again to all the great feedback we have received on this firmware. Looking forward to the next Fitbit OS update! Robot Happy

Fitbit Update - 6/7/18: Fitbit OS 2.1.1 has been released to 100% of Ionic users!

Hi, everyone! Smiley Happy

I am excited to announce the release of Fitbit OS 2.1.1! (Firmware Version: 32.10.20)

We've started to roll out this update to 30% of Ionic users. This is a progressive rollout, and all Ionic users can expect to have it within a few weeks. We roll out releases in phases as a cautionary measure so that we can monitor performance closely and make adjustments if needed.

You can find the release notes for this new OS version by following the link, here.

Step by step instructions for updating your Ionic can be found here.

As a reminder, I recommend updating your Ionic over a home Wi-Fi network as this can greatly reduce the time it can take to get set up. For more information on connecting your Ionic to Wi-Fi, check out this article

If you run into any trouble updating your Ionic, I can also recommend reviewing these troubleshooting tips

Looking forward to hearing everyone's feedback on the latest release. If you have any questions, feel free to post them in this thread.

Is it an issue to all users or just me? My battery drained 50% today without using any GPS or music. I am not sure if my tracker is faulty or it the update meshed up my tracker, please help.

Thanks
Bikash

There are others here having the same issue, so it is likely not just you.

You are not alone!  I too have relied on the Ionic the last 6 months, so it is extremely frustrating!

If you have to go through the steps with support, here are a couple of things you can do that they will use in their Battery Life test:

  1. Use a FitBit Watch Face
  2. Turn your notifications and message receipts off at the watch (I even turned them off in my Phone App)
  3. Turn off any timers and alarms
  4. Turn off Auto Sync (I cleared them all so nothing is happening automatically)
  5. Turn off Move Reminder and any other reminders such as your calendar
  6. Don't use Music or GPS during your test (I removed Pandora just because)
  7. I removed all apps other than FitBit just so they cannot be blamed for battery use
  8. Sync your Ionic manually 5 to 6 times per day
  9. Wear your Ionic until it's battery is fully depleted, but try to sync it just before it goes off
  10. Recharge it using the original charge cord and USB (so your charge adapter can't be blamed)
  11. Make note of the date and time you take it off charger when it is 100% charged
  12. Wear it until it is fully depleted, syncing manually 5 to 6 times, without using it for normal exercise activity or music.  I really just want to use at the basic level.  Make note of date and time you put it back on the charger

I myself, have just started this process and will give it a go for a couple of cycles so I have a good feel for how long the battery is lasting so I can let FitBit tech know how much basic battery life I am getting.  I will then start to add back apps, notifications etc individually so maybe I can see what is causing the drain, i.e. maybe an app is not playing well with the update.  Then again, maybe it is faulty hardware and FitBit will need to replace it.

This is just the way I am going with it based on some comments here, knowing it is a pain, but I really do like the Ionic and I am hoping I don't have to give it up for something else.

Update 6/20/18:2:54pm

Well I stripped it down deleting all apps except FitBit, replaced my Watch Face with the "Monument" named FitBit one, turned off all notifications at the watch and in the app, turned off Reminder to Move; it is now a basic device.  In 24 hours it dropped to 52% Battery Life, so there is some kind of problem here and have opened a Trouble Ticket with FitBit.  I will update here as I progress through the testing process and with FitBit Tech.

Update 6/21/18: 1:00pm

It discharged completely in 45 Hours, contacted FitBit referencing my Trouble Ticket, they checked the watch from their end and issued a replacement!  So, while it was a bit of pain to have the thing go bad for whatever reason, hardware or Firmware Update, FitBit honored the Warranty and are replacing it!

Thank you FitBit for taking care of it!

I've had screen glitches since the update... screens won't move on swipe, some non responsivity on one side of screen and today the introduction of a white ring on the face... I'm overseas at the moment too making it more complex, but it worked fine and without a beat since I got it in December 2017,  Issues commenced within hours of the update.  Restarts have done nothing and I'm trying a reset then it will be support for me. I hope it's the update and not my fitbit.

Gotta wonder about the Fitbit QC/QA process for SW.

Is there a way to revert to the old firmware? I updated this week and now my Ionic isn't tracking steps properly. When I usually average ~6000 steps on an slow day, it reported only 4000 steps yesterday. This morning when I know based on my usual morning walk into work that I should be between 1500 and 2000 steps, I'm only at 880.

Text and call notifications are no longer working.

I also had to restart both my phone and my ionic 3 times each to even get it to sync once.

I'm very disappointed and wish I hadn't updated to this firmware.

@BrieCheese there is no method to revert to a prior firmware release. Fitbit constantly pushes the newest firmware to devices.

And so today my fitbit ionic screen has died. It was glitching and now it’s completley black. I’ll be calling customer service when I get back to australia and demanding a replacement. This is not good enough. A piece of equipment that was working fine, install and update and now it’s $400 of useless on my wrist. This will be my last fitbit.

I updated to version 32,10.20 last week; but I continued to experience the same battery life (one day) until this evening when my Fitbit got so warm that I had to remove it from my wrist.

After 10 min, the Fitbit got cooler; but, it is no longer working.

Connecting it to the power will not charge; and pressing any of the buttons will not provide any displayed menus.

This is getting dangerous...

I'll repeat the question, could this FW update be physically damaging the devices?

A couple of days ago I actually felt my watch being warm after I pulled it from the charger, something I had never noticed before, but I dismissed the fact. Now, I don't know...

All I know is, I'm not activating my replacement Ionic until this whole SNAFU is resolved.

Hello everyone! Thanks for sharing the experience you have had with Ionic on this thread.

If the battery on Ionic is draining too quickly, please make sure to check these tips to maximize the battery power.

For notifications, note that Fitbit is investigating a situation in which users are not able to get Verizon Messages + app notifications. Try changing the source of text messages. If you are not getting any notifications at all, try these steps.

Also, please check if you are using a compatible device.

Another thing you can try if you keep experiencing trouble with your watch is performing a factory reset on it. Note that this will erase every app, music, clock face, etc. on your watch. Go to your Ionic's settings, tap About, and tap Factory Reset.

If you keep experiencing the same issues after trying the troubleshooting steps, please report this to customer support for further assistance. If you need help with that, please let me know.

@Nehmez @Gryzor It's great to see you in the Fitbit Community! Thanks for reporting the situation you are experiencing with Ionic getting warm.

I went ahead and created a case with customer support in your behalf. Please keep an eye on your email inbox for next steps.

Keep me posted!

Hi Santi,

What happened with Fitbit's database on 2 or 3 June at night? Your maintenance has led to a gigantic loss of data. Please fix this asap. What's the use of a fitness tracker if all historical data are vanishing in the eternal darkness of the catacombs of Fitbit's data centre? Is nobody capable of retrieving these data? No mirroring, no back-ups?

Hi. Mine is still not counting my hours correctly.  I notice if I get my 250 steps for an hour, that if I do not go into app on cell phone before the next hour and watch it update there then it doesn't count that hour even though I got my steps and my fitbit has the correct hours.  So is there a fix for this?  This has been happening since last update like I mentioned in other reply.

Thanks,

Dianna

FYI  guys I went to the Good guys store where I bought it from, they exchange it for me as they have 1 years replacement warranty and also advised that they haven’t came across any issue with the ionic, so mine is now working fine as normal. So it was the faulty watch not the firmware. Happy again👍

Another non-reply...

Santi, do understand that almost everyone of us has gone through all the hoops described. A generic answer as per flow chart is not what is needed here. Also, do understand that if Support cannot understand what we're discussing - a totally failed FW update for some of us -, silence is better than rehashing the good old list.

Dear god please revert to the old build, my wife and my Iconic are both complete garbage now.  Either that or get some decent band replacements available to purchase for my trusty Surge that is still going like a champ.

Updated the firmware to 32.10.20 a few weeks back. Now I'm having issues with my Ionic syncing. I have to literally restart the Ionic, my phone and sometimes uninstall and reinstall the app to get my Ionic to sync. My Charge 2 syncs perfectly fine. Anyone else experiencing this?

As of right now i have fixed my issue of it not vibrating when notifications are received. I had to do a factory reset and reinstall the firmware. It has been 12 hours and it is still working but it took 3 hours to reinstall the firmware. The help desk had no way to fix the issue only to do what the troubleshooting guide tells you to do.
