Fitbit Update 08/23/2018: Hi everyone!

Just wanted to thank you all for your participation in this thread.

Since the majority of Ionic users have successfully updated to OS 2.1.1 (v32.10.20) I have decided to close this topic to further posts.

If you still have not updated your Ionic to OS 2.1.1, check out this post for some best practices on how to update your device.

If you are experiencing an issue with your Ionic unrelated to the firmware-up process, I invite you to start a new topic on the community or find a related topic.

Thanks again to all the great feedback we have received on this firmware. Looking forward to the next Fitbit OS update! Robot Happy

Fitbit Update - 6/7/18: Fitbit OS 2.1.1 has been released to 100% of Ionic users!

Hi, everyone! Smiley Happy

I am excited to announce the release of Fitbit OS 2.1.1! (Firmware Version: 32.10.20)

We've started to roll out this update to 30% of Ionic users. This is a progressive rollout, and all Ionic users can expect to have it within a few weeks. We roll out releases in phases as a cautionary measure so that we can monitor performance closely and make adjustments if needed.

You can find the release notes for this new OS version by following the link, here.

Step by step instructions for updating your Ionic can be found here.

As a reminder, I recommend updating your Ionic over a home Wi-Fi network as this can greatly reduce the time it can take to get set up. For more information on connecting your Ionic to Wi-Fi, check out this article

If you run into any trouble updating your Ionic, I can also recommend reviewing these troubleshooting tips

Looking forward to hearing everyone's feedback on the latest release. If you have any questions, feel free to post them in this thread.

It's nice that FitBit keeps fixing errors.  Unfortunately, the update did not fix the Exercise App settings going back to default after each synch with the app.  This is a long-standing error that is frankly infuriating.  Please fix it.

My ionic has stopped. It can’t charge uo.

the battery ran out over night, I plugged it in to charge, it got to 99%, unplugged it to move to another room, went to plug in and noticed it was not on. Plugged it in and nothing happened. Waited a bit and the it appears to start sbut just stays at 0%, then stops. Restarts and it is the same all over again. I have left it to charge but no improvement. I have also managed to remove all of these extra apps in the watch when it has been briefly on in these cycles but no improvement.

any advice? Or send a replacement

With 32.10.20 are enough problems.

Fitbit can find all here in all communities and for all tracker.

Hopefully we all get a fixed firmware without all those problems starting 35 00.00!

.20 is not really an update.....

End!Now free time!

I'm over dealing with this crap after a problem riddled Software Update!!!  Excuses at this point i.e. canned responses from tech support (or as they are saying now: "the engineers are aware of this 'known problem' as well as that 'known problem') etc. etc. etc...  Forget about it!  I will never buy another Fitbit product in the future!  As soon as I can afford it, this Ionic as well as Fitbit will be kicked to the trash can for good.  I thought Fitbit was a really good company/product until I bought my Ionic.  If this is how they (Fitbit) are choosing to handle this latest blunder... I don't want to continue to deal with the lack of truthfulness and the lack of ability to fix numerous issues or admit 'they made a mistake' by forcing this latest Software Update out to the Ionic without more testing and further digging a deeper hole by not reverting back to previous Software version?  But then again, who am I but just another Ionic owner who has to live with a device that keeps rebooting on it's own... at will or I have to reboot it in order to get it to track anything or multiple screen issues not to mention the accelerated battery run down.  Not that I should be inconvenience or anything.

Hello all! I hope you're doing well. Thanks for reporting the situations you are experiencing with Ionic since its latest firmware update.

Our team has received the feedback from everyone in this thread and is working to investigate these reports further.

If you haven't done so already, try a factory reset:

  • Open Ionic Settings app.
  • Tap "About".
  • Tap "Factory Reset".

Note that this will erase every app, music, clock face, etc. from your watch. This has helped other users in the past.

Also, for the ones experiencing quick battery loss; are you using Wi-Fi for long periods of time? Constant use of Wi-Fi can drain battery quicker. This usually happens when you are downloading a large music playlist or multiple apps at once. Try using Wi-Fi only when downloading music, using apps that require Wi-Fi, or updating the firmware on your watch.

Also note that battery can drain even while the device is charging if connected to Wi-Fi. Wi-Fi should turn off automatically after 1-2 minutes of inactivity.

Please feel free to contact customer support if you keep experiencing issues after trying every troubleshooting steps or workaround. Let me know if you want me to contact them in your behalf for further assistance.

Keep me posted!

Thanks @SantiR

Restarts and factory resets didn't work for me.

BTW: how often is normal to restart and factory reset per day?

I feel back in Windows95/98!

I'm looking forward for a new and stable firmware and software where all bugs are fixed.

Means for me:

Sleep stages are working

Not to much steps

Not to high heart rate

Thank you for your help.

Regards

Mark

I found the Factory Reset and unpaired my mobile.  A few times I got the "Red X" sync error, and had trouble connecting to my wi-fi.  I stuck with it as it could take a few goes to get to the "Green Tick" stage, in that it will take a while to get all connected devices to communicate with each other properly.

It has frozen a couple of times, but nothing to fret over as it only seems to happen when I am syncing with my mobile.

With regard to battery problems; mine seems to be fine so far as I don't have a lot of notifications (messages and calendar only) only turn on my mobile Bluetooth when my phone is charging.  Have not found out how to turn the wi-fi on yet.

I am going to test how many days it takes to get from 100% to low battery, so I have a rough idea before I know when to charge it again.

Any problems should have been sorted out and gets frustrating when you need it to work correctly, only for it to have a mind of its own.

If you have not contacted support, you should and get a ticket going. Mine was having the battery issue and we went through a day of testing. My battery was showing issues on their end so they ordered a replacement. This forum really is not Tech Support but was helpful in prepping for Tech Support testing as to what I needed to do.

Good luck!

Seems folks fall under three categories:  1) works fine.  2) GPS and/or notifications stop working.  or 3) battery life reduced to less than a day.

I must fall into the first category. I just got my new Fitbit Ionic 3 days ago and absolutely overjoyed in how nicely it's working and all the superb features. Heart Rate, Sleep mode, Messaging+, weather, answering the phone, and everything else I tried works great. I started using the Fitbit pay and it works great at most all stores. I haven't tried the music yet, but will soon. The screen is beautiful and auto adjusts in sunlight. I really like the long battery life, allowing me to wear it for days, and the water proof casing. Really, I'm overjoyed with the watch. Not to say there's not problems, but I wanted to give the other side here.

I was quite paranoid from all the people with problems on this forum and on Amazon reviews. But then over 50% on Amazon give the Ionic 5 stars, and people are more likely to review when there's a problem. So I went for it, along with the 3 year warranty. Then the Fitbit server was coincidentally down when I first got the watch so it wouldn't get past the Welcome screen! I was very upset at that point.

But Fitbit support was actually quite surprisingly good, answering the line with a wait of under 20 seconds, listened well, and then telling me to try again later when I saw the servers back up, which worked.

My watch is now using version 27.32.10.20, the subject of this thread. I have no problem with battery life, only dropping from full to 85% over a full day with me using it a lot in my testing of Apps. So it's not just the new update causing the battery drain. Maybe it's a combination of things, or the new update changing settings on GPS, WiFi or other energy hogs, or combined with hardware faults in some watches? Hopefully Fitbit will figure it out before the problem hits me too.

I waited months to buy a smart watch because of all the typical issues to be expected of the early adopters. I've seen people with Apple Watches having all sorts of major issue too. Fitbit is one of the leaders in smart watches, especially with Pebble experience, and doing well. With the Ionic on the market for 9 months, I figured it was time to take a chance on being stable enough for use of most functions.

BTW, I also see 100s of clock faces and large numbers of useful Apps now. I feel the Ionic is finally starting become a real product. The Versa may further help in the Ionic development with its high popularity and synergism with the Ionic.

My fitbit ionic won't charge.  It is completely dead.  I tried to reset it but nothing happened.   This happened about a week ago but after I cleaned out the connection for the charger, it came back on.

I am frustrated with this!!! Please help.

My Ionic replacement arrived today; am I activating before the problems are resolved? I don't think so... I'll first use my current one to death, screen glitches or not, and then see what happens.

@LarryQW : I was pretty happy myself until the recent FW update. I'd never give it 5 stars because problems with syncing etc, or the SpO2 sensor not working yet are definitely real and have always been, but I would easily have given it 3 and a half or four stars. But the latest FW really did it in...

As for the app store: apps are still very few (and many of them are not worth more than five minutes of toying around with), while the store itself is something that could've been designed a decade ago. Still, there are quite a few very nice watch faces, even though for some weird reason FitBit sees it fit (pun not intended) to approve several that are just a photo with a watch on top, thus inflating numbers at the cost of quality.

My Ionic has played up since the update. Notifications temperamental, no vibrations. Tried everything I could think of and followed recommendations about restart etc. Frustrated to say the least. I’m in the process of a factory reset, so will see.

Went for a walk at lunch time. Battery was at 100% when I left (pulled right off the charger at my desk). I listened to an audio book and had the GPS on. I walked for about 35 minutes and the battery dropped to 73%. Is this in line with what other folks are experiencing? I'm hoping to do a half or full marathon in the fall, and it's not seeming promising that the Ionic -- with GPS and music -- will make it for the duration. I have a fitbit watch face, and no other apps installed.

The watch should get 4 to 5 days with basic use and that was what mine did until recently.  Roughly, dropping 20 to 25% per day in total, I would have up to 30% if I used Music, GPS and Exercise monitoring on a day.  I would see where you are tomorrow at 24 hours after your charge.  Mine now is burning 50% in 24 hours with just basic, basic use so I went through Tech Support and am getting a replacement.  I have had mine since Christmas, and the charge drain showed up after this last update. Do I have bad hardware, or did the software update do something?  Who is to know for sure, other than it is not working the way it should.  FitBit likely knows, but really have not said, at least here anyway.

I would test the battery not using any music or GPS, you should lose maybe 15 to 20%.  If you lose more than that, I would strip  your apps off, go to a FitBit Watch Face and test it again.  If you are losing 40% or more on just base services (no apps, notifications and a FitBit Watch Face), you likely have a problem.  Good Luck!

I went for a 20 minute walk at lunch today, with GPS and music. I fully charged it yesterday. It's at 51% now.

I would say you likely have any issue and I would do the following:

  1. Strip all your Apps & Music off your watch (a pain I know, but what Tech will expect)
  2. Change to a Fitbit Watch Face like Monument
  3. Turn off All Notifications in your Phone App and on the Watch
  4. Turn off Reminder To Move in your Phone App
  5. Turn off Any Alarms or Timers on your Watch
  6. Turn off Auto Wake on your Watch
  7. Clean the contacts with Alcohol on both the Watch and your Original Fitbit Charger
  8. Charge your watch to 100% using USB to a PC and your Original Fitbit Charger
  9. Submit a trouble Ticket to Tech Support (I used the Chat method) telling them that you have done all of the above and when your watch was fully charged. ( If your watch is below 60% charge, submit the ticket)
  10. They will ask you to notify them when it is fully discharged
  11. If it is 50% or below after 24 hours they should replace it

That is what happened with mine, it was around 50% at 24 hours with it doing steps 1-8 and was fully discharged at 44 hours.  Good Luck!

It reset ok?  I had seen here where some folks had issues even doing that....sigh.  I went through the steps because of that.

Mine seems to be ok since yesterday’s factory reset. I also uninstalled and reinstalled the fitbit app. I didn’t have problems with the battery though don’t use it for music etc so I wouldn’t likely know if battery was an issue;)

fingers crossed it remains ok.

Good luck guys.

I bought the Ionic for it's tracking capabilities, but also to store music so I didn't have to use my ipod or phone. The music has never worked with my headphones. I have bought 4 pair and they all skip. I have notified customer service several times only for them to say, "sorry". I keep waiting for a resolution. In the meantime I have a really expensive watch that doesn't work to the potential I was told it would. Can I get it replaced? "Sorry". Can I return it? Yes, to where you bought it from. This is my 5th fitbit I have purchased. So disappointed.
