Update 9/3/2020: This update should now be available to all customers. If you have any difficulty updating, make sure you are following the directions in this article, and then provide as many specific details as possible in your post so that we can assist.
We've started rolling out Fitbit OS 4.2 Firmware Update (71.6.19) for Ionic.
We release firmware updates to all customers in phases. The update will be available to everyone soon, and a banner will appear in the app when you can install the update. If you don’t see the banner yet, check the app again later.
*Firmware releases are not distributed based on region or location and can reach anyone no matter where you reside. We do not recommend performing a factory reset to force the update to your device as your data will be lost and you may not get the update. Please be patient and wait until you see the update banner inside of the Fitbit app to begin the firmware download.

Step by step instructions for updating your Ionic device can be found here.
We recommend updating your Ionic over a home Wi-Fi network as this can greatly reduce the time it can take to get set up. For more information on connecting your Ionic to Wi-Fi, check out this article.

The Find Phone addition to this firmware build whilst potentially useful, is actually of little use, as once connectivity between the Ionic and your phone is lost, then the Find Phone functionality is also lost. Given that connectivity is at best problematic and very prone to disconnecting particularly after a extended period of time - the Find Phone function might only be useful if you misplaced your phone a few minutes ago nearby.
I've only lost 6% of battery charge in the last 7 hours since the update. That's looking quite good. See how it lasts over the next few days.

OK i updated my ionic yesterday, I was upset that my 90 minutes walk and my 60 minutes workout disappeared, but fine it doesn’t really matter...
Today I played tennis for 61 minutes and checked my stats: 12 minutes in the orange zone and 86 minutes in the red zone. I really don’t see how that helps me, or how it even makes sense.
It’s ok to make mistakes Fitbit, but please don’t hold onto it and revert the bad update.

Tried to update through app both Android and iOS and also on Windows 10 and MAC - updates stall on 25% installation then goes green, but reverts to 27.70.8.0 firmware.
Since first update attempt - I have lost GPS capability which is very frustrating. Sleep tracking seems to be a bit off but nothing too outlandish.
Step count is down on average, even though I am doing the same (if not more) than recently in my daily activities.
Auto recognise function is not functioning at all now.
Seems to be a problem with some of the Ionics - but this needs ironed out.
I have followed all advice, of removing tracker from account, cleansing bluetooth data, uninstalling app, soft reset, factory reset, re-pairing and so on. I could actually do it blindfolded now I have tried it that many times.
I would stay on 70.8.0 if my GPS worked again!!
Please help!

Just conducted update and it has completely ruined my Fitbit!
All text on click face and watch sub pages has disappeared, only the outline of the boxes is visible. Do not update your tracker.

Mine died completely too and, I couldn't charge it, at all. The next day, most things showed up again, I could (and can) charge it (most of the time) but not fond of the new activity analysis and can no longer get BPM data nor stair steps on my watch but they show up on my phone. However, it is showing calories burned but, I don't know who it calculated!
Interesting update!
Scott

My Ionic updated fine and seems to be working like it should apart from the sleeping heart rate data.
The plot showing whether the heart rate is below the resting heart rate no longer shows any data. The percentage of time under resting heart rate is displayed (although I am doubtful this is correct) and the estimated oxygen variation is visible (which seems fine) but the plot of the heart rate is not (see image below)
The Fitbit tracker is measuring my heart rate during the night because when I go to the heart rate page there is still data there.
Before the update I had the plots all work correctly so it’s either related to the firmware update of the Fitbit or the update to the Fitbit App that has caused the problem.
The Fitbit has been reset once during the update process so I am going to try resetting the Ionic before I try anything else but I thought I would post this message in case anyone else is having the same issues.
Kind Regards
Brandon

I have had something simialr the last 2 night
Sleep tracking didnt start until 00:05 Thu night, I was asleep by at least 22:30, and last night, it tracked sleep ok initially and then there is a 2.5hr gap between 23:32 - 01:55. HR tracking also has missing data during the same time windows both nights.
Not a clue what is causing it, but strange it has happened on the 2 nights subsequent to the update

I have installed the firmware on my Ionic and haven’t had any issues with this clock face shown below.
It might be some issues of incompatibility with third party faces as a result of the update.
Try installing this one as your default clock face and see if it solves the issue while the developers update the clock face you were originally using.
