Ionic GPS Biking Auto Pause versus Manual Pause

ANSWERED

I have the Blaze and use for bicyling connected to my Iphone for GPS. My big complaint is that when I stop, I sometimes forget to pause and then restart. Other Apps, like Mapmyride, stop automatically and then restart when you are riding. Will the Ionic have this feature??? Its important.

Thanks in advance for any assistance...

Thanks.!!!!  I don't use earbuds for safety as well. Just my Iphone on a cradle... works perfect. Good to know the GPS auto pause works as advertised and is reasonably accurate. I use mapmyride on the Iphone and it matches very accurately my Blaze (if I remember to renew when manually pausing while on a quick rest). I probably am going to go for the Ionic... Any other thoughts (pros/cons) you might have would be appreciated as well. Thanks so much.

I think it is pretty much like you hear. If you want a good workout tracker Fitbit is it. If you are looking for a smart watch that tracks your workouts then you should get something different.

That being said the ionic is a great device and is only going to get better when they work out the bugs with the new OS. So far the workout tracking is spot on for me but I mostly ride a bike and walk. I add a little weight training in when I can. The weather app and NFC payments are going to be just about all I need when they are working as intended. The weather works but some issues syncing and NFC payments not released yet.

I'm very upbeat at this point with the potential of the Ionic. We will see what FItbit does. I hope they step it up and really puch the new OS and get a ton of different apps for it. But for me it does what it should and it does it well. Everything else is icing on the cake.

Ionic has an "auto pause" feature.  I have not tested it yet, but it's there on my Ionic

I tested the auto pause yesterday while running outside and it worked perfectly!

Dear Sunrise Girl.
so you stopped a few times and your Ionic stopped as well?
Thanks so much if you can verify

@Skipfit Sunrise Girl used it for running. You'll want someone to verify on cycling because the Blaze supported auto-pause for running but not for cycling.

@bbarrera I had no idea the blaze supported that!! Where is the setting for that on the Blaze??!?

The Blaze doesn’t support AUTO PAUSE- that was my concern/question. Other Apps, like Mapmyride, do support it and they work. I think Fitbit should have that as an option for Blaze as well but they don’t…So I am asking if the new high priced Ionic does.

@Skipfit. I tested it with running and it worked perfectly.  I ran and then stopped and started a few times....worked with no issues.  I have not personally tried with cycling but it is supposed to work for that as well

sorry I don't run, and a triathlon friend insisted the Blaze auto-pauses for runs. She was wrong.

Did my first bike ride with the ionic today. short 16 mile 1hour ride and the GPS worked great. The auto pause worked just as it should when I stopped at a light. The distance and speed is pretty accurate. I'll see how it goes over the next few weeks.

Cycling is my favorite activity. Having auto pause for cycling, on board music, and GPS... on my wrist! Can’t wait for the ionic to show up tomorrow!!!

Reggie,

Thanks so much for letting me know you are a bicyclist and getting the Ionic... Let me know what you think about it - particularly how the auto-pause works....

Everything worked like you would expect for my bike ride today. I had the GPS on and music streaming to speakers I have mounted to my bike. I dont like having ear buds in because I can't hear anything around me. Any way I started the ride with the Ionic at 88% battery and had GPS and music going the whole ride about 1:30 mins including pauses and had 68% left on the Ionic when I finished. Just to give you and idea of the battery.

Curious as to whether you get steps for cycling. I know some people don't want to, but I do. My Charge HR did, but my Blaze doesn't. Thanks.

I am interested to. I have a blaze and it really does not capture steps. It’s tough to have an algorithm that approximates steps while biking. But I ain’t fitbit so let’s see what people say.

I thought the algorithm on the Charge HR was reasonable:  10,000 steps for biking approx 20 miles.
