It's great to see you around @brandi97. Thank you for the troubleshooting tried.

Fitbit Ionic has built-in GPS. When you select a GPS exercise, Ionic vibrates when it finds a GPS signal. Environmental factors including tall buildings, dense forest, steep hills, and even thick cloud cover can interfere with your watch's ability to connect to GPS satellites.

For best results, wait for Ionic to find the signal before you start your workout. However, if you don't want to wait you can start your workout and GPS tracking begins when Ionic finds a signal.

Note that Ionic uses your step count to calculate distance until it finds a GPS signal. The total distance calculated for a workout may be slightly less accurate when GPS data isn't available for the entire time. For more information, see How accurate is GPS?

Let me know how it goes!

Yes...  I’m having a lot of issues connecting to GPS.  Missed out on an OCR Race with no connection the entire time.   Did 5 miles at the beach yesterday and no connection the entire time.....    my daily runs in between are hit and miss......did yours start to work again.

I've had my ionic for 8 weeks now and it's never connected to any GPS satellites...I have to use my phone every run walk or bike ride. I'm getting tired of this. Never had this problem with my surge. So I figured an updated watch would be better but of course no...

No dense trees. No tall buildings. No mountains. No excuse.

Thanks for participating in the forums @Dbb91f. I appreciate the details mentioned. I've shared your post with our Support team and they've mentioned you already have a case with them, please continue the communication through email, they will continue assisting you.

It's great to see you around @CycleGreig. Thanks for the details mentioned and for the troubleshooting tried before.

1. GPS can continue tracking while your phone is locked.

2. The location services are enabled within your privacy settings. Make sure to have the "High accuracy" option selected.

3. You have a strong Internet signal (Mobile Data) during the run

Also, try force quitting the app before tracking another activity.

I'll be around if you need further assistance.

@SilviaFitbit are you sure you replied to the right thread? Ionic doesn't have connected GPS and it looks like this is what you described 😉

@CycleGreig I encountered same problem multiple times. It helps to stop and restart tracking although it doesn't guarantee success. There is not much you can do as a user. If your mobile phone can connect and watch cannot then the problem is the watch. One thing that may help is not to move while Ionic tries to acquire GPS. For me, this issue appeared this year. Before, I have never had problems with connection except that it could take up to 1 minute. I suspect Ionic doesn't store and update GPS location cache hence the problems with connection (not enough storage?). Garmin with outdated cache file may also make you go crazy.

Sounds about right. I did a factory reset and now it’s working...? Still takes a bit to connect. I’ll see if it stays connected throughout a full run. Thanks for the advice.

So I've had my ionic for over a year now. God would take sometime to connect on runs sometimes but I don't think I never had it connect at all until yesterday. I do the same 1.5mile circuit so all that jazz about tall buildings, trees, etc, yeah unless someone erected a Faraday cage around my development the day before yesterday, nope. I,ve factory reset the watch and I'm still searching for GPS. So if you buggered the GPS software, just ownup to it please Fitbit!

So what was the point of spending 300 bucks on a watch that doesn't track my GPS? And with the Fitbit app, I cannot track my cycling, only walk run or hike? So now I have to use another app to track cycling? Basically just a fancy heart rate monitor and step counter...I'm so disappointed....

My Ionic also can't connect to GPS. This just started last week. I've had it for at least a year and a half and have never had issues connecting to GPS
