Everyone -- I really appreciate your candid feedback on your setup experience.
After reviewing this discussion, I want to provide tips to help you setup your shiny, new Ionic successfully. Please understand that during this process there are certain steps that can take longer, especially the Firmware update, so patience is key. This is the largest firmware we've ever released and contains more data than any of our past Firmware update releases.
During setup, I recommend connecting to a strong personal or work Wi-Fi network that requires a password (public networks like coffee shops or bookstores should be avoided). If you're not connected to strong Wi-Fi connection or using Bluetooth, the process can take as long as 2 hours or more. So please make sure your Wi-Fi connection is strong.
With that being said, let's get you setup!
Setup checklist
What if setup still doesn't work?
Try giving it another shot. Follow the instructions above and if you get stuck, please tell me where in the process Ionic stalled.
I want to acknowledge everyone's contribution to this discussion and express appreciation for bearing with us through some of the hiccups. We're always striving to improve our product and observe user sentiment and feedback to make improvements where necessary. Rest assured that future firmware and app updates will be released incrementally to address issues experienced by users.
Lastly, I welcome you to continue sharing your experiences here and provide as much insight as you can. My hope for all of you is a successful setup so you can start reaching your health and fitness goals with help from Ionic!

I’ll check it out but I think the issue is what you setup the Wi-Fi is the prime issue. If you don’t reconnect to same it’s an issue,
Will reconfirm next few days.

Awful experience. Ready to return. I have a Blaze that I love with no problems setting up. The Ionic has been a nightmare. I have spent hours trying to get it set-up. Agree with all the other posts. Who tested this??

I can't get my new ionic to setup. My phone just keeps searching for it and my computer says download an app. The ionic stays on the same screen which says fitbit.com/setup and different language the scrolls through. I have pushed all of the buttons and it does NOTHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

For me, it was factory reset that ended up resolving this.
Be aware that the unit will re-pull the firmware update because... why wouldn't it?

bought a Fitbit, went to setup, spent two hours, went to chat, got passed around twice, now waiting for E-mail from tech for step by step instructions, an hour later, no instructions, spent almost $300.00 for the pleasure of this aggravation, ionic and its problems are going back today.

Honestly I'm really disappointed that I paid that much for that watch that I have not been able to use. now its been 24hrs and the watch is still not set up. I have tried resetting it and is not working.

I have just seen that Fitbit are advertising a new watch - the Versa. I wonder if this is in response to all the bad PR they are getting for the Ionic. Although my Ionic works well and I didn't have a problem setting it up it did take over a day of trying when I wanted to change a watch face. I won't be doing that again in a hurry!
With hindsight I think that the recommendation to everyone should be put a hold on buying the Ionic and see what reviews Versa gets.

I tend to agree. I have had some small issues with my Ionic, but am disappointed that the Versa seems very similar but is much cheaper! Will be watching to see what kind of feedback it gets.

Not only much cheaper but also so soon after the launch of the Ionic. A pure sign that the Ionic needed replacing - and fast before Fitbit started loosing credibility

Best advice I can give is to box the ionic up and ship it back with all the problems. I took the refund and bought a blaze which is working fine.

I was wrapped with my New Ionic fight up until yesterday. After a week of loving the new fit bit it wouldn’t sync yesterday. I tried absolutely everything and now I have had to resort to resetting factory settings and forgetting it on Bluetooth... let’s see what happens, 8 can5 believe it dies after a week!

I loved my Fitbit at first but so many problems I wish I had never bought it an expensive mistake

Excellent advice - I found that by doing the same thing the watch rebooted and allowed the firmware upgrade to complete and thenwarch was good-to-go within about 45 minutes.
