Everyone -- I really appreciate your candid feedback on your setup experience.
After reviewing this discussion, I want to provide tips to help you setup your shiny, new Ionic successfully. Please understand that during this process there are certain steps that can take longer, especially the Firmware update, so patience is key. This is the largest firmware we've ever released and contains more data than any of our past Firmware update releases.
During setup, I recommend connecting to a strong personal or work Wi-Fi network that requires a password (public networks like coffee shops or bookstores should be avoided). If you're not connected to strong Wi-Fi connection or using Bluetooth, the process can take as long as 2 hours or more. So please make sure your Wi-Fi connection is strong.
With that being said, let's get you setup!
Setup checklist
- Start by making sure your device meets the requirements
- Un-pair all Fitbit trackers in Bluetooth settings (if any are listed under devices in BT settings)
- Remove all Fitbit trackers from your Fitbit account (If any other Fitbit trackers are setup to your account already)
- Turn Bluetooth off/on
- Perform a factory reset on Ionic (tap on Settings/ tap on About/ tap on Factory Reset)
- Restart your device (phone or computer)
- Plug-in Ionic to charge somewhere close to your internet router
- Go through the setup process (instructions start on page 9 of the manual)
What if setup still doesn't work?
Try giving it another shot. Follow the instructions above and if you get stuck, please tell me where in the process Ionic stalled.
I want to acknowledge everyone's contribution to this discussion and express appreciation for bearing with us through some of the hiccups. We're always striving to improve our product and observe user sentiment and feedback to make improvements where necessary. Rest assured that future firmware and app updates will be released incrementally to address issues experienced by users.
Lastly, I welcome you to continue sharing your experiences here and provide as much insight as you can. My hope for all of you is a successful setup so you can start reaching your health and fitness goals with help from Ionic!

2nd. Time after a factory reset because of missing or notifications. It
also updated right away the 3rd-4th-5th-.......10th time for no wifi/not
Bluetooth/no notifications etc.etc.etc. and still not working properly
after 15 emails and 35 hrs. Messing with this piece of junk...but adds
insult to injury is the fact that Fitbit senior customer service
representative said" We will not be able to accept returns because the
watch is not defective "
That's my problem

Again, after I disconnected my old Fitbit Charge from the Fitbit app, everything started working with the Ionic and it is syncing fine. Before it was not syncing.
All-day Sync is on and Always Connected is off. I have a Samsung S7.
I got notified twice about high battery usage (1% in 1h) but I ignored it and I did not observe any problem with the phone or the Ionic.
I would double check that it is connected with WIFI. You may also try to disconnect and reconnect the Ionic from the Fitbit app.

I would add to the checklist "be sure your fitbit app is up to date" My app had apparently not been updated and it kept looping out and refusing to setup my ionic until I checked and realized my app was not up to date.

I recently switched from Microsoft Lumia to an Android phone. Things have been smoother now and the communication especially switching watch faces are now faster. However, I still can't get Wifi to work reliably and hopefully next firmware update can fix more issues. Thanks.

Not sure what is wrong but just spent $300.00 on the Ionic. Had 2 previous Charge HR and swore I wouldn't buy again because of the band issue. I should have listened. The Ionic seems VERY buggy. WiFi seems to not connect when needed, sync seems to be erratic, Pandora allows me to log in in the app but the watch does not seem to know I have a linked account. I have reset, rebooted, removed, re-installed, tried various other wireless systems to no avail. It says my firmware update failed but not sure if it did... shows version 27.25.16.7. Not sure where to go from here other than try to get my money back??

Hi Brian.
My firmware update failed the first time round.....
Now, from what i remember is to go into your fitbit pp (on fone or tablet), or in your account and remove your device. Then re add it again.
My firmware update (second time around), took nearly 24hrs!!!!!!! iT kept saying installing...installing...installing. It TOOK forever, however, once done, all was good!!
The information on removing and readding device is a 'workaround' whicht i stumbled upon by accident by a moderator in the fitbit 'forums'
(just type in 'workaround' in the search and it should come up)
I hope this helps, because as you, I was extremely frustrated initially, but it's working seemlessly now. No issues at all. I reckon they released it too soon and unfortunatly we are ...hehehe the 'guinea pigs' to this new device!
Remember, just be patient with the update when you do it again.
Hope this helps,
Cheers
Mick

Just remember, it took around 24hrs to complete, maybe because it wasn't always within range......
So, the d/load is simple, but the install procedure will keep saying the same thing.
Just leave it be, and eventually you will see a "Firmware Updated Successfully" message! . 🙂
Trust me, i was sooooooo pissed off initially, but all good here now.
hope this helps

IT person to check the Wifi and Bluetooth connections on my computer, which
is still under warranty. I suspect (hope?) that the PC may be the problem,
and if so, this person may be able to resolve my Ionic issues.

Reading all these tales of woe whilst my Iconic is setting up I am thinking what have I done. But hey presto after 20 mins it says set up complete, and no issues. Woohoo! Lets hope that is correct.
