Can't answer directly, but you can also set Whatsapp as the primary app for Text Messages. That should be persistent anyway. Perhaps that solves your problem in another way?

I see only the cam symbol

Do you have the whatsapp selected under text notification or under apps notification?

In case you haven't, you can try unchecking it under text notification, and only checking it under apps notifications.
