I am currently using the Ionic paired with my Samsung S8...I have been experiencing significant connection issues.  Not receiving text messages nor and I able to sync my data to the app.  I have tried trouble shooting to no avail.  Any other suggestions?

Hey there @Dio, it's nice to have you on board! Woman Very Happy Thanks for already troubleshooting this syncing issue, nice way to go!

Let's start from scratch, all right? Your Fitbit Ionic can connect to open, WEP, WPA personal, and WPA2 personal Wi-Fi networks. Your watch won’t connect to 5GHz, 802.11ac, WPA enterprise, or public Wi-Fi networks that require logins, subscriptions, or profiles. If you see fields for a username or domain when connecting to the Wi-Fi network on a computer, the network isn’t supported. For best results, connect your watch to your home or work Wi-Fi network. Make sure you know the network password before connecting.

Note that you can connect your watch to a personal hotspot which lets you share the cellular data of your phone or tablet when you don’t have access to a Wi-Fi network. Additional data charges from your mobile carrier may apply.

You’re prompted to connect your watch to a Wi-Fi network during setup. If you skipped this step or want to add other networks to your watch, complete these steps:

  1. From the Fitbit app dashboard, tap or click the Account icon > your watch tile.
  2. Tap or click Wi-Fi Settings.
  3. Tap or click Add Network and follow the on-screen instructions to connect your watch.

If the connection is not good enough or is not working at all, to verify your Wi-Fi network is working correctly, connect another device, such as your phone or computer, to your network. If the device connects successfully, confirm your network type is compatible with your Fitbit watch by reviewing the supported network types I just shared above.

After you verify the network is compatible, plug your watch into the charger and make sure it’s in range of your Wi-Fi network. For a stronger Wi-Fi connection, move your watch closer to your router. If you still can’t connect to Wi-Fi, complete the steps below based on your issue.

Note that Wi-Fi won’t work on your watch when the battery level is below approximately 25%.

On the other hand, if your Wi-Fi works perfectly with your Ionic, but you keep having syncing and notifications issues. I'd recommend checking this post for troubleshooting steps about syncing and this one about notifications (in this post I'm working with a user who has a Charge 2, but the steps are for Android mobile phone so you can go ahead and attempt them). Robot Very Happy

Give this a shot and let me know how it goes!

I was able to figure out the problem...my ionic was linked to my phone and tablet.  Once I removed it from my tablet everything worked out just fine.  Word to the wise, only have your ionic synced with one device.

@Dio, you can have the Ionic active on more than one device, but you cannot have it connected to Bluetooth on more than one device at a time.  I simply turn off Bluetooth on my tablet when I sync the tracker to my phone, and it never has a problem.  But, if the tracker is connected to the active Bluetooth on my tablet, it cannot/will not sync to my phone.

Awesome @DioSmiley Very Happy I'm glad to hear you're back on track!

My friend @USAF-Larry is right. If your phone is managing multiple Bluetooth connections simultaneously:

  • Your Fitbit device might stop syncing or stop receiving notifications.
  • You can experience interruptions with any consistently streaming Bluetooth connection such as headsets, car kits, stereo audio, tethering, and file transfers.

These interruptions are typically caused by operating system and Bluetooth limitations. It's also possible that an app on your phone is causing the issue.

Since you have Android phone, try these steps:

  1. Turn off the Always Connected option in the Fitbit app.
  2. Disable other Bluetooth connections when not in use.
  3. Check to see if your phone has an app compatible with Ford Motor Company's voice control system. If so, disable Bluetooth on the app if possible or uninstall it.

The API used in these apps makes it difficult for Fitbit to communicate reliably with your phone. Ford provides a list of apps but note that other companies may use the API as well.
