Ionic counting steps while charging

This is the third time I've left my ionic charging overnight and woke up to thousands of steps already registered. This was an expensive device. Any advice, besides restarting it, before I return it?

I've seen posts before where this has been caused by a fitbit left on a nightstand with a fan. Could it be something like this?

Do you think it's resetting at midnight and clocking up steps whilst you are asleep or is it possible that the problem is that it's not resetting at midnight and you are seeing yesterday's steps?

It's not from a fan. I leave it downstairs in my living room. As far as it still learning yesterday's count, the steps are the only thing counted. Every other category is at 0 except for the estimated calorie burn from sleep which had been the same every night. I would assume if there are thousands of steps the mileage would go up too, but this is at 0

There are lots of posts where people have reported that steps have not reset at midnight but from a quick review of some of those it's not clear whether the distance is carried into the new day too or whether that is reset ok.

I can't think of any other cause of this problem. If it is a failure to reset then the restart of the fitbit should prevent it happening but I note that's not the case here.

You may well have a dud and returning it may be your best bet. You could also contact customer support in the hope they can see what's going on from the server side: contact.fitbit.com

I placed my ionic on PC while charging it. It registered about 4K steps in 45 minutes. As soon as i noticed that, I changed the position from PC to desk. After doing so steps counting stopped. I don't know what could be the reason. Is it the vibration of the PC fan or any other electro-magnetic interference with accelerometer. No clue. Only Fitbit technical team can answer.
