Ionic distance accuracy concern

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

Hi , my running partner and I run the same route & same pace.  We have noticed that my fitbit records a higher distance than his garmin. We both believe Garmin is accurate as he runs a lot of professional marathons and his Garmin is always aligned to the race's distance. So the k ilometers & the time is in question.  I would have liked to attach the stats for your perusal

Welcome to the Fitbit Community, @Nelisiwe11.

Thanks for the details shared in your post. I understand your concern and appreciate your efforts to attach your stats. If you feel that your distance is inaccurate, confirm the following are correct in the Fitbit app:

Since we use height to estimate your walking and running stride lengths, you may want to measure and manually adjust these values if your legs are longer or shorter than average. For more information, see How does my Fitbit device calculate my daily activity?

If you are tracking your activity with GPS, all devices with GPS sensors require a direct path to GPS satellites to calculate location. A weak GPS signal might affect the accuracy of your route and other activity data. Your device uses your step count to calculate distance until it finds a signal, so the total distance calculated for a workout may be slightly less accurate when GPS isn't available for the entire time. I would also recommend checking out this article with information about tracking your activity with GPS.

Additionally, I recommend checking if your Fitbit app is updated to the latest version as updates come with new features and bug fixes: How do I update the Fitbit app?

Hope this helps.
