Ionic has stopped tracking sleep and exercise

Recently my FitBit Ionic has not been tracking my sleep and does not automatically recognize when I go on long walks anymore. The battery life is also not maintaining as well as it used to.

Should I do a factory reset or try something else? I have only had this FitBit for a year.

Hi @ahawley nice to see you on the Forums! Robot Happy

I'll be glad to give you a hand with your Fitbit Ionic that is not tracking your sleep and walks. This is not a normal behavior, but please try to restart your Ionic and confirm the settings of the Auto Recognized Exercises, they have to be longer than 10 minutes. You will find this on Dashboard > Account > Exercise.

There are a few scenarios where you might see your sleep pattern (which shows your time asleep, restless, and awake) instead of sleep stages, you read more about this here: What should I know about sleep stages? If any of these scenarios applies in your case, the restart will help too.

About the battery drain that you've noticed on your Ionic, you can follow the steps suggested here. Also take a look of this article that gives you some great tips on how to help the battery life of your Ionic: Can I improve my Fitbit device's battery life? We always recommend plugging your charging cable into a USB port on your computer or other low-energy device. If necessary, you can use a UL-certified USB wall charger. Don't use a USB hub or battery pack to charge, and only use the charging cable that came with your device.

Performing a factory reset is the last step that we suggest since this will delete all the information on your Ionic and you will have to install all your apps again.

Give it a try and keep me posted.

As of 4/5/2019 my ionic started doing the exact same thing! It no longer tracks exercises but displays my current stats (ie current heart rate Etc).

I've been a Fitbit user for four years now, and I'm really very frustrated and tired of having to hard reset the ionic every time any type of problem arises. I never had these problems with my last two fitbits!

The ionic almost seems as if it is a beta roduct, instead of a product that was thoroughly tested before moving into the market.

If anyone has any more suggestions, please let us know. Thanks.

(please also disregard my grammar as I voice tight this post and voice typing always makes mistakes LOL)

Hi @geminiman7 thanks for jumping in. Sorry to hear that you feel that way.

We really appreciate your loyalty over the years and for the steps that you've tried to help your Ionic to keep tracking your stats. And don't worry I'll understand any typo. :spiral_notepad:

Thanks for the feedback, about the quality of Fitbit Ionic, I'd like to mention that we test our Fitbit before releasing them to the market and we expect the highest quality in our products and services.

Please confirm, if you've followed the suggested steps above; including the factory reset and keep me posted.

See you around.

I'm feeling your frustration here. Mine is new (got it in December of 2019).  It has not worked properly from day one.  I can eventually get it to sync, and it syncs my steps and yet doesn't sync my sleep. Doesn't sync exercise (even when I select exercise on the watch and select the activities.  I was on the elliptical and then ended the session.  Then went on to track my weights and ended the session).  It isn't even syncing my active hours.  Watch congratulated me for 9 hours being active, yet the app says I have not had any activity.  Trying to sync over and over and over, and it finally syncs, updates my steps, and then all other activities are showing nothing.  Says I was inactive for 9 hours.  Says I have not done any exercises.  And ignores the sleep.

I had a Fitbit blaze before and the Ionic has far underperformed.  Not seeing any real answers to these problems (resetting the watch did nothing but allow me to have one successful sync in 20 tries).  Think the Ionic must have been rushed to market and has serious issues.   This level of frustration is enough to push me away from another Fitbit ever again, and to warn all others to not buy this brand.

I just received my Ionic last Thursday. I was deciding between it and the Garmin Vivio 4. I get the feeling I've made a big mistake in choosing the Ionic. It worked fine for 2 days and now has stopped logging exercise. When I finish a run or cycle I can see the exercise information but as soon as I press "done" it is gone. At the same time it has stopped logging/recording sleep. I bought presents of the Versa Lite for 2 family members and of Fitbit Inspires for 2 other family members so have been a good customer but this is very frustrating. Also you can't download songs from Spotify, you can include the Spotify app on the watch but can't download... not much use if you want to leave your phone at home

As an update, I did a factory reset after this post and it has worked perfectly since.

I haven't tried linking back in with Strava but don't want all of my exercises hitting strava anyway.
