Ionic heart rate tracking issue

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

My Fitbit pretty much says I am doing hard core working out almost 24/7.  Resting heart rates are in the mid 100s constantly. Manual hr count is in the normal range, even wore a friends watch and hers calculated it normally for me while the Fitbit was doubled. Resetting did not work.

@Btphotog Welcome to our Fitbit Community. Regarding the inaccurate heart rate tracking issue that your Fitbit Ionic has experienced, I appreciate the time spent trying to get it resolved before contacting our forums.

I'd like you to check out this help page, which explains how your Fitbit device tracks your heart rate and it also explains what factors can affect the heart rate tracking.

Hope this helps.

To BTPhotog
Has the heart rate sensing issue affected your sleep tracking?

To both BTPhotog and JuanJoFitbit/moderator:
(My experience is similar to that described in this post but if a new thread is required, please advise)

My Ionic spontaneously restarted on June 10, 2021 and the high/irregular heart rate issue commenced immediately afterwards.
My Ionic Adidas has been in service since June 2019 with no issues of this type....until June 10, 2021

I first noticed the heart rate sensing issue because I got simplified sleep tracking on June 11 with a message 'your tracker could not get consistent heart rate reading while you slept'
At that point, I looked at the heart rate reading on June 10 to see the data gap when it spontaneously restarted and VERY high and irregular readings from that time going forward.
At the time I checked heart rate, the Ionic read 139bpm but my actual rate was 76bpm.  The Ionic was properly fitting on my wrist.
Since June 10, the sleep tracking has not provided the enhanced sleep stages and each day has the message 'your tracker could not get consistent heart rate reading while you slept'

In an effort to restore heart rate operation, I have carefully cleaned the sensor area, made sure that it is fitted tightly to my wrist, disabled and re-enabled heart rate sensing, restarted the Ionic, let the battery drain until the Ionic stopped then fully charged it.
After disable heart monitoring and re-enabling, the heart rate will return to normal for 5-10 min but then it becomes high and irregular again.
The issue remains unresolved.

There have been no changes to the Ionic or the Fitbit app in over a year....nothing at all changed in settings.

Any extra suggestions are welcome.

I have an insurance policy on mine, I sent it in for repairs.

Where did you send it for repairs?  have they come back with an estimate of repair cost yet? If so, may I ask what the estimate was?
I have a warranty on mine, also.
Thanks

I bought it from Wal-Mart, and they have an insurance option that increases with the cost of the item my Ionic was enough to allow me to buy a 4 year policy. It's insured by Allstate. It covers full replacement or repair. When it stopped charging after the Fitbit warranty expired they replaced the bezel and it worked I don't know what this will require, but there is no cost to me. Sent via the Samsung Galaxy S10, an AT&T 5G Evolution capable smartphone

Well dear I am in India and we are not offered any options when we buy.

No I did not sent it for repairs as I am trying since last four months and no one seems to know the service station for fitbit ionic.

Where did you sent it for repair?

Well....goodbye Ionic.  I bought this Ionic Adidas in July 2019 and it died on June 11, 2021.
I had the Squaretrade (allstate) 4 year warranty.
ST can't replace the tracker so they paid me the full value.

I bought a Sense, with 4 year warranty.  Fitbit is a better device/system for fitness, IMO, so I just figure in the minimal cost of warranty.  It's still less than the competition.
If I need to get a new, then current model, every 2-3 years for no cost, that's minor.
The i device may be better quality but the fitness features aren't as slick and there's no way I'm going to charge my watch ever day...that's ludicrous.

My experience with fitbit over the past 7 years has been 20-30 months of life. It'd be nice if the technology gained by the Pebble acquisition makes things better but if the short life is due to financial decisions alone, it'll not change until people stop buying the product.
Between my wife and I, we've bought 5 fitbit devices.  3 of them failed and were replaced in warranty.  None of the devices, those replaced in warranty nor the originals that weren't replaced in warranty, lasted longer than 30 months.

Thank god you are living in a country where such warranty is available. I live in India and no such paid security is available...hence shift to i...what else. though I do agree ionic is a better choice for fitness...but I won't allow self exploitation.

I'm sorry to hear about that.  I did take a look at Squaretrade to find they list presence in 10 countries, but India isn't listed.  There are other extended warranty providers but I don't know if they serve India.
I'd agree that the purchase price must be much lower if the hardware is to only last 1-2 years and the factory warranty isn't expanded.
