Ionic not getting notifications

Hi all,

I got a new Ionic to replace my Charge 2 and I am not getting any notifications to the watch.  I have a Samsung Galaxy 7 edge and my notification bar on the phone says the notifications are running.  I disabled the Charge 2 and have turned on my phone and Ionic along with doing all the other recommended steps.  I am at a lose, my Charge 2 worked fine.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I cant tell you how frustrated I was that I haven't been getting notifications! Cant believe the fix was that simple.

I don't understand - what fix is there? I called Fitbit support and they said notifications will not work for iOS 11.3 and above.

I finally gave in and got an Apple Watch. No more FitBits for me after having 5 different models. Great fitness tracker but lousy smart watch.

This totally sucks. I just got an Ionic to replace my Charge 2 which stopped counting floors. I always have most recent iOS. Went to Fitbit support and was not told about notifications not working. I am so disappointed. Ionic is pretty and works well as a tracker but now: no alarms working, no notifications, no calls. What gives?

Fitbit, please fix this!!

Ever since the last Fitbit firmware update, version 27.32.10.20 all my notifications, calls, texts, email, Cortana started working fine. My Ionic reliably vibrates as soon as the phone call is recognized on my phone, texts show almost immediately with the first few lines, of email, like text messages shows first few lines. Cortana shows notifications that I have set up on Microsoft money and news. I turned off my Fitbit notification notifications because the onslaught of notices Fitbit marketeers bombard thier customers with.

The only thing I find unreliable with my Ionic Fitbit are the "apps" such as weather, that require direct communication with the internet to keep updated.

I use to scream LOUDLY about Ionic's poor ability to handle notifications, but for the past several weeks my Fitbit ionic has been communicating my phone calls, texts, email, etc to my Microsoft Windows 10 Lumia 950 XL. Is it possible IOS marketeers are hacking Ionic notifications bully marketing ionic users to IOS smart watches?

I have 27.32.10.20 on my replacement Ionic which I got a few weeks ago and I've never gotten a notification.  Everything is turned on, but it has never worked.

Sorry to hear that. I'm using  Microsoft Lumia 950 XL with Windows mobile 10. I set Notifications up for the Ionic in the Fitbit software Turning Notifications, Calls, Text, Calendar and quiet hours on. Still in in the Fitbit Ionic app setup, I then tapped Notifications to ge a list of apps to toggle on or off. I toggled FitBit OFF and selected the few apps i wanted notices on (definitely not all of them).

Done with the Ionic setup in the Fitbit, I went to my smartphones Windows 10 All Settings and typed in Notifications. Two sets of Notifications setting popped up. On the first one, to ge the W10 OS to allow Fitbit to get phone, calls, texts, etc I turned Fitbit notifications ON. I then hit back arrow so I could tap the second Notifications setup and choose from a list of apps to check that the list of W10 apps i wanted notifications ON for. Again, just the few I want, not ALL of them.

Calls, Texts, Mail, Calendar, etc notices are syncronized between my Microsoft phone and Ionic just fine now and have been for a few weeks now. Ionic "apps" are toys, completely unstable, next to useless anyway so to save battery i uninstalled every "app" Now My Ionic is working fine and is quite useful.

Hope this helps you to sort out the serindipitous setup route to Ionic bliss with whatever brand of smartphone you are trying to get you Ionic to function with.

I finally called the helpline and was instructed to reset the device and reinstall. Then I set vibration to strong. I’m getting notifications and phone calls now and the alarm is working properly. I have an iPhone with the latest iOS release. Glad all is working. Hope it stays that way.

This worked for me too. Too bad it takes a full reset + uninstall/reinstall of the app to fix it.

I had the same problem with my Surge. I had given up on Fitbit after so many issues with the Surge but a friend who did a lot of fitness tracker research convinced me to go with the Ionic. I'm disappointed to see that this P1 issue is still around.

I did a complete re-install and then all was good. Today I needed to resync to get notifications going again and all is well. Thx!

Hi guys @Kathycb and @Mvanbogart! I'm glad to hear that your Ionic has been working fine so far. Thanks for sharing the steps that have worked for you @enjuneerRobot wink It seems that helped the others in this thread.

Hi @dacarter! If you're still having difficulties getting the notifications, I'd recommend taking a look at the article: My Fitbit device isn't receiving notifications from my phone

Please note that with the new Fitbit OS update 2.1, Notifications are now removed from the Versa/Ionic once you open the conversation in your phone.

Let me know if there's anything else I may assist you with.

Well shoot, once I bragged about how well my Ionic was working with my Windows 10 Microsoft Lumia 950 XL smartphone the Fitbit app for Windows 10 mobile would no longer load at all. Found the Fitbit app was magically broken on my three Lumia Windows 10 smartphones and on my wife's Microsoft Lumia 950 smartphone. So let's see, we now have two Fitbit flex 2s, 1 Fitbit Aria scale and one Fitbit Ionic, a total of about $$$520 of Fitbit devices made almost completely USELESS because the fine well tuned minds of the movers and shakers at Fitbit saw reason to "fix" thier already working Windows 10 mobile Fitbit app. Apparently the Fitbit Windows 10 mobile app is now working about as well as their Fitbit app is now working with IOS, which perhaps explains why the marketing hype surrounding FIT's latest device, the charge 3 claims that it will only work on Android systems.

Until Fitbit gets the apps for Wondows 10 mobile and IOS fixed I pulled my trusty Timex Indiglo from the bottom of the drawer and will be wearing it. I will NEVER switch to a smartphone OS as funky and with as big a security holes in it as comes on android powered devices.

So tell us FIT people is there a forthcoming fix to get your stuff back to working on IOS and Win 10 mobile, or did I just watch my $500+ investment in Fitbit devices fly out the window?

I have an iPhone 8 Plus. I reinstalled everyone on my Ionic as instructed by helpdesk. It is working fine now.
Sorry I can’t help with Windows.

Is this the new thread where everyone is saying that the recent firmware/app have terrible sync issues on devices listed as supported since they locked the firmware release thread?

I bought my ionic and have never had it sync reliably for more than a day or two. I not only do not get notifications but the website dashboard even mocks me by saying "you havent synced in a while, need help?" and links to the help documents and forum.

Only reliable sync of data to the web dashboard (and back down to the app) for me is turn on music sync which kicks on wifi and it syncs data.

I spoke too soon. Notifications were working again for a couple weeks but have stopped again. Now what? I see in an earlier post that notifications don't work with iOS 11.3 and higher. I'm on iOS 11.4.1. Could this be the problem? FitBit needs to be resilient to phone OS updates. The notifications is a core feature of the FitBit and one of the main reasons I chose it. Perhaps it is time to cut-bait and return my Ionic.

I can get the ionic to connect with iPhone 7 Plus no problem but it doesn’t seem to connect to any android phone

Hi everyone, thank you for all the details, and welcome to the new users in the forum.

I'm sorry to see that you've been experiencing trouble to get notifications or sync, before considering other options, please check here the list of compatible devices and look for your specific model to see all the features available. Also, make sure the Fitbit app is updated to the latest version available.

If you haven't done so already, of in case other users are checking this thread for the first time, here are other resources with troubleshooting options that have been useful to other people experiencing something similar:
