Ionic not getting notifications

Hi all,

I got a new Ionic to replace my Charge 2 and I am not getting any notifications to the watch.  I have a Samsung Galaxy 7 edge and my notification bar on the phone says the notifications are running.  I disabled the Charge 2 and have turned on my phone and Ionic along with doing all the other recommended steps.  I am at a lose, my Charge 2 worked fine.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I've tried both Android latest version and iPhone. It won't even make it through setup and pairing

Honestly Shell "Reset it" is not "Steps", it's a step and if you have to write that down to remember it I fear for humanity

I had backed up my Fitbit data to my Mac and my phone. Didn’t lose anything. Was pleasantly surprised.

I’m with you Kazobel.  Surely there is a bug fix that they can put out to correct this.  It is getting to be annoying and unreliable.  I have done the very same things that everyone else has done to correct the problem and it just ends up happening again.  I am a huge fan of Fitbit, so this is very disappointing to me.  I have never had any issues up till now.

I'm shipping my ionic to them and asking for a refund. If they won't offer a refund they can keep it cause it's useless. Now it won't even power on after trying to charge it after it has sat unusable for a couple months. Less than a year and the thing is a dead brick... Junk

Ever since the latest update, fitbit will no longer run in the background on my phone. I have always connected turned on. It syncs my fitness data fine, but I keep missing emails due to this.

@DavideFitbit

Yes, tried all steps back when the device would power on. Tried multiple approved devices.  Now it wont even power on and is under a year old.

My Fitbit doesn’t notify me about emails, only text messages.

If you go into apps and select your email app (outlook in my case), it will send notifications to your watch. I am getting no notifications at all. Even phone and texts I am not receiving on my watch.

@DavideFitbit I am using a Moto Z. Like I said, it was working before the latest update, but now the app will not run in the background. I am on Android 8.1.

If I factory reset, disconnect from the fitbit app and reset and update, it will connect and work for about 30 minutes, then it will stop receiving messages and notifications. I have noticed that the popup saying it is running in the background is not there anymore.

How to fix Fitbit notifications

Have notifications stopped working on your Fitbit tracker? We explain how to fix Fitbit notifications and get them working again

 By Henry Burrell | 25 Jul 2018

If you have a Fitbit with a screen, then chances are it can receive call and text notifications from your

phone. This is handy if you want to be alerted with a buzz on your wrist when someone is calling or

sending you a message.

In fact, even Fitbits without a screen like the Flex 2 can give notifications with its flashing lights and vibration.

Sometimes your phone won’t play nice with your Fitbit though, and notifications might stop coming

through. This is usually down to Bluetooth connections and settings within the Fitbit app on your

phone.

Here’s how to troubleshoot Fitbit notifications and get them working again. If you’re setting up a Fitbit for the first time, here’s how to set up a Fitbit.

How to fix Fitbit notifications

On your Fitbit

First, check if notifications are enabled on your Fitbit. Go into the settings menu and scroll to notifications. Then check all options are turned to ‘On’.

On phone

Now, check your phone and Fitbit are both on and charged. Then check your phone’s Bluetooth is turned on.

On an iPhone and on an Android phone this is in Settings > Bluetooth

Once this is on, you should check if your Fitbit is connected to your phone.

Open the Fitbit app on your phone to check. If connected, a picture of your Fitbit will appear at the top

of the screen with a green connected symbol next to it (iPhone on left, Android on right):

You’ll need to make sure that connection is green before proceeding. Tap on the picture of your Fitbit

to go to the options menu, scroll down and choose notifications. To test the connection on Android, tap

on the three-dot menu at the top of the screen and then tap Send a Test Call Notification. This can’t be

tested on an iPhone.

If the Bluetooth connection is working, your Fitbit will vibrate with a fake phone call.

From here, you can tap on Notifications under the General section on Android, or just Notifications on iPhone.

You can select Call notifications to be on or off, as well as specify which apps you want to send alerts

for texts, calendar, emails and other apps. You have some, but not all of these options on an iPhone:

If these steps have not worked, you’ll need to check the Fitbit app’s permissions in your phone’s settings. On iPhone and Android this is under Settings > Notifications > Fitbit

Make sure all permissions are turned on.

If some needed turning on, return to the start of this tutorial and repeat the steps.

Thank you for the update @ZHT1, the phone you mentioned is indeed listed as a compatibile device to sync with the Fitbit app. Could you please also confirm if you've already exhausted all troubleshooting steps listed here? Try to restart the Bluetooth on the phone as well (On/Off).

Also, thank you for this information that you've shared @Anne2525 and @Kathycb
