So last night after being prompted for the update, I chose to install it over wifi while plugging in the device on charge, only to notice a black screen later. Tried troubleshooting over the phone with an agent, but no luck. She said I can have 25% off on a new device, which still costs roughly 250 dollars! I asked her if there's any repair facility instead, but turns out, Fitbit just wants me to cough up 200 dollars every now and then! Is that the business model?!

Sounds like your watch got stolen from you like mine did. I updated to 70.7.27 and now my Ionic won’t turn on. I have not had any issues with this watch previously. It’s was in excellent condition. I hope Fitbit does the right thing and returns them to us.

This same thing happened to me this week, after the update. Would not record HR, red light came on at the back, drained battery quickly and finally its DEAD! Contacted Fitbit by Twitter message, must be the only way to contact support! they replied with the tips page. Really? I have tried all of this already! i am still waiting to hear from them. This is so frustrating, I don't understand how they can ignore all of their customers who are having the same problem.

I'm still awaiting for someone from Fitbit to comment.

Hi Silvia, assuming that I have an open case, I'm sure there's a case number to follow up on yah? If yes, why was I not given it by the agent I spoke over the phone? (or email at the least)

So they are.doung nothing for me because it is.outside of the warranty! Well done FitBit!
Offering a discount towards a new one 25%. Wow! I am beyond disappointed! Maybe time to go to BBB to post a complaint. Unbelievable, maybe I should have read the reviews before installing the update, I would have never done it if I had. I am sure you will all recieve the same response from them if your warranty is done!

I’m curious how long your warranty was expired? This is the second fitbit I have had that suddenly dies after the warranty expires. Reading all the comments on here, I realize that fitbit is intentionally doing it through the updates. I don’t expect a replacement from them. I am shocked that you got one.

Yeah with random watch shutdowns the Ionic is the least reliable device we own. Whenever anyone asks about it we cannot recommend the device. Instead we say better to look at Apple or Garmin or Samsung etc for something more reliable and easy to use.
GPS accuracy - ease of syncing music - bluetooth earbud connectivity - text message notifications - quick battery drain etc - have all been problems. Will continue to use obviously but the user experience has not been very positive. Fitbit has lost a lot of consumer confidence accordingly.
It seems the hardware is in need of an update as firmware can only go so far. Maybe that is why the Ionic is no longer being sold in the Fitbit Store.

It was expired probably 5 months. But I had to go above and beyond Fitbit to get my replacement.

Hi there,
Just updated my IONIC yesterday to the latest version, and now my IONIC's battery is just draining like crazy (down 30% in 1hr!). Watch will die within a few hours after a full charge. What happened???
PS. Turning my wrist no longer activates the awake feature...even though it was selected to auto on the watch.
