I've had my Ionic for almost two weeks now. Randomly, during runs the Ionic will stop recording for no reason. I have Auto-Pause and Run Detect both turned off, as was suggested in another thread to make the GPS more accurate, so those shouldn't be a factor. This has happened three times out of five runs since I bought the watch. When it stops recording on its own, it also doesn't automatically add the workout to my stats. I had a Surge for almost three years before buying the Ionic and never had any issues like this. Is anyone else experiencing this, and if so, have you found a resolution to it yet? I'm very close to returning the Ionic at this point.
I haven't found any resolution yet. After looking at everything, it appears that it did record everything except the exercise and GPS data though. Steps, distance, active minutes, elevation gain, heart rate, etc. were all accounted for. So it apparently discarded the workout for some reason, somewhere around the one hour mark. It could have even been at exactly one hour as I got my cue for seven miles which was just under an hour, but when I finished (about 8 miles) it had stopped. I don't know when it discarded the other runs because I didn't have automatic queues setup for those.
I just had the same issue this morning. I was out for a run, it was recoding everything, and then the next timeI looked at my watch the workout was gone and instead the “run” screen was there. When I synced to my software there was no trace of the run - no time splits, etc. Does anyone have a fix?
Best AnswerNope, after several different chats with Fitbit I was told it was a “work in progress”. Same with the notifications not always showing up. So, I returned my Fitbit today and purchased a garmin.
Best AnswerI just spent a LONG time with Fitbit customer support. It’s a known issue, and may be caused by receiving notifications while on a run. The possible solution is to go into Settings on the watch and turn off Notificaitons During Exercise. Let’s see if that handles the problem while they try and get to the root cause.
Just to add another person experience this issue. Was running around an indoor track last night on the Run exercise mode with GPS off and recording laps, it just ended the workout 3 times without recording it into my exercise history. Only way I knew was when I would come around to record a lap and get no vibration when hitting the button and would be back on the main screen. Got the steps, etc. overall but annoying. Will try it per the above without notifications On until hopefully Fitbit fixes soon.

That's how I resolved the problem. Turn off notifications during exercise, and the issue goes away.
Best AnswerJust to follow up, I’ve run 3 times, for around 25 miles since I turned off notifications and haven’t had any problems since then.
Best AnswerI just had the same issue with my run. I checked my Ionic and it had stopped tracking. It had returned to the clock screen. I did notice that shortly before that I had received a notification. So the explanation from DrJoel does make sense. I will try turning off my notifications during exercise until Fitbit release an update to fix this. Thanks to those of you who've already reported it.
Best AnswerI had the same problem. After one km running my ionic stopt recording my workout. I did not had my phone with me so it is impossible that I received a notification from my phone. The workout was also not shown in the fitbit app after synchronising with my phone.
Best AnswerThis has happened to me regularly as well (including while running a marathon which was super disappointing since I can't see my overall marathon performance in my tracked exercise, and I really don't want to do that again). My notifications are turned off while I workout so it can't be an issue with the notification setting.
Just to provide some more feedback, had this happen again while running laps on a track again with GPS and notifications Off. Seems to be beyond being affected by notification settings. Hasn't happened on any other exercise type yet.
Best AnswerThis has happened to me several times as well during runs in Exercise mode. Just stops recording altogether. Very frustrating because I pay attention to pace on the Ionic.
Although it appears to stop and return to home screen, after a shutdown of the watch and a restart of my phone, the exercise will appear, and also sync with Strava. Just sucks that it's not there for pace during the activity
Best AnswerIn November they said this?! I just had it happen three days in a row...and yesterday I got the very rare Fitbit firmware update for Ionic. Crap!
I just bought the ionic and its doing this! Dang it! Its done it twice in a row! How aggravating!
