Ionic- what a disappointment...

Was a big fitbit fan.  Have had the ionic for 3 weeks.  Great looking watch that wears well.  Great to track steps and runs.  But the fails are impossible to ignore.  Heartrate isn't even in the ball park. Treadmill steps are 50% off.  Music is incredibly hard to use.  Wallet doesn't work in Canada (and cannot use metric for distances). Alarms just crashes the watch.  Strava doesn't work. And the gps connectivity cuts out all the time, for no apparent reason. so sad to see fitbit put out such a poor product.  I can only assume it was late to the market, and rushed this product that was simply not ready.  Severely damaging its reputation, and when I return it, I'll go back to Garmin, likely for good.  Too bad.

The only advice I can give is to skip the Vivoactiv 3.  The HR monitor on the Ionic is far more accurate.  I haven't had any of the other issues so I can't be of much help there.

I feel your pain, I wish I had never got one

If you hated it so bad, didn't you just return it? And doesn't that solve your problem if you do?  They have a pretty easy return policy.

Thanks. Yes, but the point of the forum is to share information so others
can know about the watch. I wish someone had warned me, so I wouldn't have
wasted so much time with this.

@SunsetRunner

Would you mind sharing your Ionic setup please? Phone, App Settings, Watch Firmware please.  I hope others too that aren't having issues would post their "environment". I've seen many configurations of the people who it's not working for, it'd be nice to see if there's a trend in those that it is working for.

My config is in my signature.  The only reliable workaround to the sync issue so far is to set the Ionic to add a new device, and while it's searching, force sync from the app.

Thanks in advance.

Ionic (27.32.10.20), Surge (Did not live up to 5 ATM Spec originally on tech spec), Samsung Galaxy S5, Moto G5 Plus

I wouldn't say that it was wasted... it was put to good use.

For one thing your evaluation of the watch it's the best you could get... beats all the reviews put together or forum threads... in fact if you read the online reviews you hardly see reviewers complaining much about the new Sports watches in general yet if you go the the forums... oh my.

This is one of the reasons why I advise everyone to get it from a store with good return policy and test it... everyone has their own expectations, pattern of using it...

These days all the new products have software bugs, issues, missing or incomplete features... either we talk about sport watches, phones, cars, operating systems, tv's....

If you want a bug free experience switching brands might not be a good option if you opt on a new (recently launched) sport watch... take one that it's at least 7-10 months on the market with a mature firmware

@LwrHrtRt

Verizon Note 8

App Version: 2.62.1

Firmware: 27.25.16.7

The only things I'm seeing in settings that would help watch connection/syncing is the All-Day Sync and the Always Connected, both of which I have turned on.

There is a setting on the Ionic Settings website called Live Data allowing one to "view real-time data in the Fitbit app." I reckon it's on by default, but I turned it off, and syncing seems to go easier. Probably a fluke.

Update.   I stayed with it, hoping it would get better, and it has.  Heart rate is still an issue, which I hope will get better over time.  Average HR of 170 and max 210 on an easy run!  Treadmill works now. Alarms has been fixed.  Strava is working, sort of.  GPS connectivity is still spotty, but getting better.  Hoping to get wallet in Canada, and the ability to use km rather than miles.  So overall, still a fan, and hope that there is a brighter path ahead!
