Just received an Ionic for Christmas .. third Fitbit I’ve owned. I logged into my Fitbit account and selected a new watch face called “Elegance” which seems nice... for awhile. After a few days my watch face is locked up with an error, “To continue using Elegance please visit KZL.IO/Eleg and enter a code. I will NOT be logging into a website I know nothing about in the middle of the Indian Ocean (.IO websites are registered on a small island in the Indian Ocean) . At this point I assume this is a hack and if the problem persists, I will return my ionic and walk away from Fitbit after over 5 years as a user. Not sure I can support a product that allows 3rd parties to hijack my wristband at will.

It's not a hijacking, it's the author of the app asking you to pay for their product.
Coming from AndroidWear, that's nothing new. Usually AU$2 per watchface was standard. Elegance mentions in it's product description that you can trial for a few days but then you have to pay.
Need to cool your jets and read product descriptions a bit closer before mounting the high horse.

Thinking it was hijacked was a bit much...... But..... This is why fitbit should sort of separate the free from the pay faces.

You could simply try to change the watchface to sth else first.

Fitbit really should take a page out of how Android Store and Apple Store display their apps. Things are very clear and don't require "reading carefully" to understand what charges money and what doesn't.

The irony is that Apple and Google won't let them.
Fitbit cannot directly offer paid apps/clockfaces without having the purchases go through Google/Apple. That would mean that Google/Apple take their 30%, and then Fitbit would take their cut, leaving the developer with maybe 50%... if you're lucky. It'd also be horribly messy for Fitbit, having to handle the payments and track them alongside the different systems that Google and Apple provide.
Instead Fitbit don't offer paid apps or clockfaces. At all.
Most of the paid apps/clockfaces in the gallery are powered by KiezelPay (https://kiezelpay.com/), which was started for Pebble apps originally. It's completely independent of Fitbit (and Pebble), which means it can feel like a random website/hijack sort of thing. It also needs to be on the watch, not in the iOS app - to avoid breaking the rules that Apple enforce about payments.
As a clockface developer who sells via KiezelPay, it's really really annoying... but it's the only way to avoid getting in trouble, because Apple don't play nice.

How do I just revert back to the original face if I don't want to pay for the Elegance face?

Just go to the Clock Gallery and choose the one you want and click "Install" the same way you installed the one you have now. The new Install will simply overwrite the current face.

I like the elegant face. Was it expensive to keep?

The paid faces usually cost around $1.99 USD for lifetime ownership of the clock face. I've paid for two so far and used PayPal to pay for them. Very easy to do.

I think all watch face developers should band together (independently from Fitbit to avoid implicating Fitbit) and work on a tiny graphic/icon to put on all their screenshots, like a little [$1.99] sticker in the top corner, so that people swiping through the gallery will know which is paid and which isn't.

What happens when you have paid, but it locks the watch face out a month later and sends you a code to pay again...are they good for only a months use per pay?

Go to the Website URL given and you will be able to select "Previous Purchase" and enter the code and your Clock Face will be unlocked.

Maybe not a high jacking, however, the only thing that I've got for the dot.IO is a huge batch of phishing emails last fall. Nothing but junk. I don't know anybody in the IO and not sure, with this experience that I want to do business with anybody using a dot.IO address.

got mine for a birthday present. so frustrated with the Iconic. Cant set to bluetooth. took 4 hrs then it works then it loses the bluetooth and I have to go onto the web to update the tracking.
It is one of the worst products of FITBIT. Also going to give back and go to another product from a different company.
Disappointed and the ALTA HR was far better and cheaper. .
