Gorilla glass is not as strong as Fitbit makes it out to be. Do not make the mistake I did. This afternoon I barely hit my hand on my desk at work and was left with this huge scratch after owning my ionic for only 3 days.

Sorry to hear that @ummbubbles.
From what I've read, gorilla glass is very hard. So much so that the old toothpaste trick won't work on it.
Several people have reported that by applying a screen protector later, it did make the existing scratch less easy to see. Might be worth a try, and should protect against any further scratches.

Can you return it? Only having it for 3 days and all.

Me too sadly! Banged the Ionic on the desk and have a scuff, I thought it might have been a little tougher. I know this sucker is going to get some punishment when I'm exercising, rowing, soccer, circuits, kayaking and more. My Garmin was the same, took quite a beating and it showed on the screen.
Oh well in retrospect I will get a screen protector.

I contacted fitbit and they are going to send me a replacement. They said this usually isn't covered under the warranty but they will do a one time replacement. I have to send this one back and then they will send me a new one. I'm sure it will take a few weeks but it's better than being stuck with this scratched one. And I did buy screen protectors for my next one!

I've had my Blaze for a year and I work a rough job and it has no major scratches. I've bumped and dinged it a lot. The edges on the module have a few dents but the screen itself is good.
I've had this thing a week and the frame is already scratched. I think I'll just get the extended warranty. The problem is the glass is curved.

Where do you get screen protectors from for the Ionic?

I'm thinking about buying these ones, it's a wet application and looks like it has good reviews.

Hi i work in engineering so just put a sweatband over it to protect it i know you cant see the watch but it seems to protect it ok .screen protectors wouldn't protect it in the environment i work in.but still feel it vibrate so only look at it when i need to.

@ummbubbles This is a link to another thread where someone has the same issue of scratched glass. Fitbit describes the glass as "scratch proof". They are pursuing a replacement based on that description. IF it works for her (@Yaydelwan) it may work for you. Good luck. https://community.fitbit.com/t5/Ionic/Ionic-screen-scratched-Gutted/m-p/2252540#M9318

I'm using the iq shield protector on my Ionic and have had the same one on two charge 2s (mine and wife's) for over a year. Had some nicks in the projector but the device is still good to go. For the Ionic they had sent me a pre release protector and when they modified the design sent me a new pack free of charge. Bought through Amazon as well. Attached a pic for reference. The screen protector comes right to the very edge.

Here is an ongoing thread where we discuss screen protectors, rugged bands, etc.
I purchased this to protect the frame and it has done a good job so far (no screen protector though):

Out of interest, how long did it take Fitbit to respond to you with the offer of a replacement?

@Yaydelwan I did a online chat with them - first the lady told me my case needed to be evaluated further and I would hear back from them in the next few days by email. I argued with her as to why it needed to be evaluated, do you need a new picture, more information? After a few mins she finally said she would evaluate my case during the chat and then gave me a answer directly 2 mins later.
So the whole waiting for your case to be evaluated further is a bunch of BS

@Yaydelwan Wow you are getting nowhere! I'm sorry. I have never tried to contact fitbit through Facebook, maybe the customer service team working facebook just sucks. I would try chatting with them on fitbit.com - you will have a higher chance of talking with someone who has the authorization to take care of your problem and not just keep passing it along.
