Resetting Fitbit Ionic

Folks, when all else fails, try resetting your Ionic.  Here is how: Press and hold the left and bottom right buttons together, until the Fitbit icon appears, then release.

The reset has always worked for me when things get hookie and hopefully will for you as well!

Thanks for the link! Yeah I did all that in great detail several times over three weeks and I just can’t seem to get anything other than the red X. I’m convinced that I have a failed firmware update but it’s almost like the position is and I just can’t seem to get anything to fire

You're welcome @Barryjenkins thanks for your reply and update, my apologies for the delay in replying.

I'd like to appreciate your effort and patience troubleshooting your Ionic with me, seems odd that the troubleshooting steps that were attempted didn't resolve your device situation. Can you please try our factory reset procedure following the below steps and then try again the steps from the link that was previously provided? Our factory reset procedure is way different than a regular reset, however, such steps resolved this uncommon behavior for some users:

  1. On the device, hold all three buttons for about 10 to 12 seconds.
  2. When the Fitbit logo disappears, quickly release the bottom right button, continuing to hold down the left and top right buttons (releasing the bottom right button as soon as the logo disappears is time sensitive).
  3. When the device vibrates, release all buttons.
  4. Wait for approximately 1-2 minutes while the device clears all data. Eventually, the Fitbit logo appears and the device boots and displays Fitbit.com/setup.
  5. When the device successfully resets, please use the normal out of the box process of updating the firmware. You can check: How do I update my Fitbit device? for more details.

Take in consideration that a factory reset deletes any stored data, which includes all data that hasn't synced to your Fitbit account and your applications, alarms, etc.

Let me know if you need further assistance, I'll be here.

I’m about to reset the ionic by pressing the left button and lower right button, but it will clear the screen and the logo appears and stays on. It won’t go to the working screen. Any ideas ?

My battery has not been holding  charge and takes days to charge....i cleaned everything and the obviously the charger works because it does charge when the watch allows it. When it is 100% charged i can put it on and within 4 hiurs it is dead. I donot workout or listen to music through my watch. Just my heart rate and sleep patterns mostly. It doesnt evem show all my missed calls or texts. Never has

I have reset my watch (fitbit ionic) about 10 times in the last two weeks trying to get it cleared up. Not working...

Anything else i can do ?

I cannot get my Ionic - adidas edition back to life after updating it with the latest update yesterday.

The update itself took 12 (!) hours to install on the watch and after that it is impossible to switch on the screen of the watch.

I tried restarting it by holding in the left and bottom right button a couple of times, no luck.

Tried unpairing, but then can't get it to connect again as the screen is unresponsive and thus won't give me the 4-digit code needed for pairing the device.

Reinstalled the app on the phone. Same result as above.

Have now also tried the factory reset procedure as provided in previous comment, but I never get the fitbit logo with Fitbit.com/setup back on the screen.

After several minutes the watch vibrates like crazy for about a minute, but screen is still unresponsive.

I tried to connect the device to my account on my phone again, the phone can find the device but again when it's asking for the 4 digit code from the watch to be entered this is impossible as the screen only goes to a hazy grey shade and is otherwise unresponsive.

I really wish I would never have started that stupid update, everything worked fine before...

So far I have not been getting any response from Customer Support upon my support request submitted yesterday. Hoping to get some help here instead to bring my watch back to life.

Gave it another try yesterday with the factory reset and it finally brought the clock back to life.

Reset took more than 12 hours though since it was completely impossible to connect the watch to our home wifi network, so far I still haven't been able to reestablish the wifi connection, but at least I got a working watch again.

I found a solution. Use the FitBit app on iPhone after factory reset. Connect iPhone and Ionic to same Wireless 2 G network. Update. Android app does not update Ionic.

I don't either. I had to borrow one and install the Fitbit App on it. It
took about three hours in all.
