SPO2 sensor on Ionic

Part of the sales pitch for the Ionic watch was that it has multiple additional features that would come online after launch, including the ability to check blood oxygen levels. I've yet to find anything to do with it anywhere. Has anyone got any information when this stuff is going live or was it just marketing?

3. Apparently I am conveniently ignoring Fitbit's Indian GM. However you are ignoring me I have asked for a URL about this. Please supply because I have no idea what you are talking about.

The link to the interview with Fitbit's Indian GM reported less than two weeks ago was clearly given in an earlier post. To repeat:

And this article from February 8, 2018 quotes Sudhir Chowdhary, the Country General Manager of Fitbit India, as saying "In addition to this, we have also incorporated a new sensor—the SPO2 sensor. It is the blood oxygen level sensor. With this capability, users can measure blood oxygen levels." Note the present tense in "users can measure blood oxygen levels"!

I would also note that this statement clearly says that users can actually get measurements, not just detect apnea.

Finally.

Firstly this is from a website called:

http://www.financialexpress.com/

The article's main audience here are investors not Fitbit customers. I would hazard a guess that not one person complaining here went out and bought an Ionic because they read financialexpress.com .. Quite frankly I think their target readership may have more brain cells (btw when is Fitbit going to release a sensor for this?? I fear I may have lost a few recently).

Regardless I agree the statement can be misleading...

"With this capability, users can measure blood oxygen levels.".

He does not state it is capable though, only that the sensor exists. "With this capability".

Also "can" is not necessarily a present tense word, it can also refer to the future. "will be able" would have been better phrasing.

Nevertheless I still agree it is misleading.

Finally something to point to rather than some made up BS.. Well done! I would write Sudhir Chowdhary and ask him to post here.

Fitbit put out a press statement that any reasonable person could foresee would lead to misrepresentation of their product's capabilities.

Absolutely right.

I'm not cancelling Netflix, but this thread is entertaining enough for me to delay actually going out and buying a Fitbit Ionic...

I suggest more people agree with this, then we can ignore what the actual press release said for investors. If you ask me that's stable AND genius! The more you repeat and agree the more it makes it right... Correct?

You still aren't clued up on your URL's are you. You do realise investor.fitbit.com is an entirely separate website to fitbit.com don't you?

Understand what a portal and a sub domain is. The stuff to the right of the slashes is the document path until finally the document name.

But you  are quite right, Fitbit should be storing their investor press releases on porno.fitbit.com and not investors.fitbit.com. Also investment disclaimers should not be written on investor press releases. The fact that this INVESTOR press release which contains disclaimers targetted towards INVESTORS, the fact it is written in INVESTOR speak and downloadable from their INVESTOR website we should pretend as being entirely coincidental. In reality people just write random things and put them them randomly on any old website. I am busy right now for instance uploading my Tax return to the Walt Disney website.

Lets face it: they cant get the software for the sensor to work. I suspect its because of the wrist positioning in ambulatory patients which is falsely throwing up instances of desaturation and the variability in skin translucency which is affecting the absolute values.

They over promised a device that was designed to appeal not only as a fitness monitor but also as a health monitor for people with respiratory problems. They will argue that this is not a medical device but when your publicity namechecks medical conditions like sleep apnoea then you open yourselves up to this criticism. People are entitled to refunds. They are taking down the specs because they have been advised by their legal teams that the sp02 sensor implies that it will give sp02 values. If the watch is failing to deliver on this it is ‘not fit for purpose’ according to UK law.

What I find sad is that there are people on here that are shameless apologists for an organisation like this.

I for one will be telling all of my patients not to waste their money on a fitbit and will be taking my device back to the retailer followed by trading standards if necessary. You have to have principles in life. This is a lot of money for some people.

Can you supply a link with evidence to show they can't get the software to work? Or is this just more made up BS.

The more you say things over and over again does not mean it makes it a fact.

The SPO2 sensor is not mentioned in the specs. Nobody gave you a promise to develop it either. You bought the watch knowing it did not have this sensor working, if not before then afterwards. You had a chance to return it you did not.

The investor press release clearly implies it is a future and has opt outs at the end of the document in case they don't deliver.

If you didn't carefully read that document, or you went to a third party website that misled you then sorry.. too bad so sad.

The only thing you've got going for you in an ambiguous statement from somebody in India, reported via a third party website rather than through official channels.

Next time learn to read the specs of the device you are buying and stop moaning. But you never know they MIGHT deliver this year.

Not sure what you mean by "shameless apologist" as that implies something needs to be apologized for. Nobody promised you anything you are just moaning.

Oh one other thing, you have completely made this up (no surprise). SPO2 sensor was never listed in the specs, only in marketing the Fitbit company for investors (with opt outs). You have come up with another potentially libelous statement. Have a nice day. Anyway you are from the UK so that rules out you aren't Donald Trump.. I was convinced for a moment.. (sue me!)

If they could get it to work I'm sure they would have released it by now. Its the USP. Nothing else justifies the increased cost of the device over others in the range.

Actually I was sold the sensor by a senior retail staff member who had just come out of a meeting with one of the fitbit reps. The information was from a Fitbit rep who had promised a higher level of accuracy than the equivalent Nokia device.

It's interesting that some things I am writing are being deleted from my posts.

Which shop did you buy?

It's irrelevant. I compared prices in a number of shops and all the sales staff were taking about the sp02. Clearly the reps were told to push this. Probably the same hymsheet used by whoever was feeding the journalists the sp02 hype.

I don't need to tarnish the names of the shops when they are clearly getting the same information from the reps/promo materials. They were genuinely excited about this.

Listen, I have no idea what your vested interest is in defending Fitbit. You clearly aren't objective. I'm not interested in whether Fitbit have misinformed via investment websites because it's all in the public domain and amounts to the same thing.

I like many others who have been misled simply want to know if/when this sp02 is coming out. I do not expect to have to consult the internet before I buy a watch like this. Like many people I don't have that kind of time because I have patients to see and a business to run. I have to much to do to spend days researching every minor purchase.

This is all very embarrassing for Fitbit.

@SunsetRunnerThis has gotten really out of hand.  What benefit does you berating other users provide?  You have made an abundant amount of assumptions and incorrect statements your posts you have even provided a post proving yourself wrong recently.

I have flagged your posts.  Please just stop this and let it go.  Just because you don't agree with someone doesn't mean they are wrong.  This has become a personal attack against other users and must stop.

Perhaps you can supply them the sources for all of your allegations and baseless statements and hyperbole to the mods (see my last post). I've asked you multiple times for your sources and you haven't supplied them, clearly you can't, you either ignore or make some excuse up.

In summary again...

* Promo's and materials about SP02 (apart from the investor press release). Show us an official source please.

* The shop/s names where you said people were talking about SP02.

* Demonstrate where Fitbit have been changing the specs.

* Show me the source where it says Fitbit can't get the software to work.
* Also curious as to why you think mentioning a shop name will tarnish their reputation LOL.

Have a nice day.

You actually haven't asked me for anything, you seem to be confusing me with the person you are fighting with.  I am a bystander in this whole thing and I am again reporting this post as a violation of the acceptable use policy.

You are right I am confusing you, apologies i naturally assumed you were the same guy.

Ok so along comes a guy who has written .a whole load of baseless allegations against Fitbit. All he has is an investor report and some bloke from India to point to.

Your response is to report the person asking him to supply the evidence for his baseless claims.. Well done you.

You said:

Well people are entitled to their own opinions but they are NOT entitled to their own facts.
