Steps Increasing when I'm lying on the couch

I have a fitbit Ionic.  I have a Daily Step goal set at 12,000.  3 times in about the past 2 weeks (including last night), I have been lying on the couch doing nothing except scrolling thru FB-with the other hand.  All of a sudden Fitbit goes off congratulating me for reaching 12,000 steps.  AND THEN - within a minute, its telling me that I have EXCEEDED my goal with 22,000 + steps!!   Can someone tell me what's going on?  I want to earn my steps honestly.

That doesn't sound right. Have you tried restarting your Ionic to see if that solves the issue? You can do this by pressing and holding the left button and bottom right button together for 15 secs (until you see the fitbit logo).

I'm having similar problems.  I've had my ionic for about 6 months and was happy with it until recently.  It's suddenly started doubling and tripling my steps.  A couple weeks ago it had me at 82,000!  It was actually probably around 60,000 that day since I was running in a Ragnar race, but I wasn't happy about the added 22,000 steps.  Just today it added an extra 6 or 7 thousand steps out of nowhere along with exercise time.  The opposite happened yesterday, though, when after a 6.5 mile run, it claimed I'd only exercised for 17 minutes.  I've tried all the recommended fixes for it like restarting it and restarting my phone, and using the "driving" exercise for when I'm in my car, but nothing is working.  Also, it's not adding steps while I'm driving, it's saying the extra steps are happening at like 4 am.  I have a warranty on my Ionic, and I'm really considering returning it.

I've had mine since November and only recently has it started this.  Really weird.  I've tried resetting the fitbit & reinstalling the app but i dont think it has fixed it.  But it has worked the past 3 days like normal.  I dont have issues with driving.  Ive always had it give me steps while on a riding mower though!!😃
