Hi All, I have just bought a Fitbit Ionic a week ago. I chose to receive Calls and WhatsApp notifications on my ionic. Though the call notification works fine, the WhatsApp notifications stop everyday. I read over some articles and as suggested I uninstall and reinstall the fitbit app on my phone (android) everyday!
This is quite annoying.
Dunno if it is a coincidence, but it does seem to happen if I connect Ionic or my Phone to another bluetooth device. Then when I re-establish the connection between phone and ionic I see the "Notification service not running. A phone restart is required to re-enable notifications on your tracker."
Please help!

A warm welcome to the Community @KayBee24. Thanks for the details mentioned and the troubleshooting tried.
I appreciate the research done, sorry to hear that you're experiencing this with your Ionic and Android phone.
I would like you to confirm that you've done this procedure to receive notifications on your Ionic. If you are but your notifications are still not working, please force quit your app, reset Bluetooth, restart your Ionic, refresh notifications and set them up again. You can find the instructions here.
As a side note, even if you connect your phone to another Bluetooth device, there shouldn't be any interference. If you're still receiving this message "Notification service not running. A phone restart is required to re-enable notifications on your tracker." please provide me with a screenshot.
I'll be around if you need further assistance.

I am already following the steps mentioned in the article. Re-enabling notification access, pairing bluetooth again and restarting my fitbit ionic - these steps do help in getting the notifications, but then I am having to do these everyday!
Attaching the screen that I get everyday and the notifications stop. Please note: I continue to get notification for calls, but Text/whatsapp is an issue.
Cheers,Kunal.

Similar problem here that seems to have started at the last firmware update. All my other notifications seem to work (I have them for email, Calendar, Slack, plus a few others), and they seem to consistently work with no issues.
However, my messaging apps (sadly, the ones I depend on the watch for notifications the most heavily) seem to don't work at all - I don't get notifications for SMS with my registered application OR with Whatsapp.
I notice there is the option to set Whatsapp as my messaging application - I don't recall this being there previously; maybe I'm wrong but it seems like a new option to me? - I have tried switching between both my SMS application & Whatsapp, but neither of them will trigger notifications on my Ionic.

@SilviaFitbit: thanks, it looks like it's a widespread problem.
I am happy to wait for a solution (hopefully won't be too long!).
In the meantime can I suggest you create an official thread on this topic - both here and in the Android Fitbit app forum (& any other affected platforms) and lock all the other threads and direct users to these?
It has been frustrating trying to stay on top of the latest for this issue as there are many, many threads popping up and many users (including me) replying to a variety of different threads to register their concern.
A single, official reference for what is now an official acknowledged bug would really help users as it would be able to centralise all the comms on this topic.
Thanks & good luck!

Thanks Silvia.
So I figured this happens when the phone is away from the watch for quite some time. Like mornings when I go for a run and don't carry my phone with me, which was the purpose of buying ionic, and when I return I see this issue. It's like the "link" breaks and I then have to refresh the notification access from the settings and sometimes even restart both watch and phone. That restores it but yes is very annoying to do everyday.
Eagerly awaiting a permanent fix. Thanks.

Hi,
I got a Fitbit Android application update today (3 Oct) and after updating my text message, Whatsapp and Calendar notifications are working again. Looks like it's back to working properly - thanks!
