Wondering if Fitbit will do a trade in scheme so you can upgrade your blaze for an ionic

Looks like blaze owners choosing to upgrade may have to put it in a top draw with other old tech

I will be using my blaze as a secondary device, mainly if I want to use connected GPS or the Ionic is charging.

Is that offer from Apple, or does it require a contribution from the wireless provider?  I'm thinking the latter.

@shipo From Apple (they use 3rd party to process/sell/recycle the phones).

The previous screenshot shows you can either use the credit if purchasing directly from Apple, or lower monthly payments if you bought from carrier.

Instant store credit at Apple means you won't get wireless provide credits......so $260 off a phone that is $1000, and costs $25 (at most) to build.

It looks like the ionic is the new surge. I, for one, won't miss the surge. I always thought it was a poorly designed tracker and didn't like the look. I realize taste is subjective. https://www.wareable.com/fitbit/fitbit-surge-no-more-rip-in-peace-hello-ionic-4853

@racertempo, yikes, $1,000 for the new iPhone?  Seriously?  I guess for that much they can afford to offer a $260 upgrade discount.  That said, I will not be holding my breath for Samsung to offer a similar program for their Galaxy line.

I have not seen any official announcement that Surge has been discontinued.  Have I missed something?  Do you know something we don't know??

@Julia_G On a quarterly investor call earlier this year, Fitbit management said they were going to reduce the number of products. Fitbit mgmt also specifically called out the Surge as a legacy product. If you go to www.fitbit.com and click on Products note the One and Surge are missing:

An even bigger clue - go to www.fitbit.com/surge and ...

No Surge product page? I'd say they silently dropped the Surge and are clearing out final inventory of the small band SKU.

@shipo Really? Launched in June about 3 months ago http://www.samsung.com/us/trade-in/frequently-asked-questions/

You need to raise your batting average on these trade-in predictions 😉 just kidding around

Very interesting, @bbarrera.  If you go to fitbit.com/store, both the Surge and One are there...

If you click on the Surge, it is there in stock in Size Small only.

And, the One shows In Stock as well.

Five days prior to the Iconic anoucement I had ordered the Surge. As you can understand my excitement and the disappointment I had if only I had waited a few more days I would've purchased the Iconic. Called back and spoke to a supervisor with regards to upgrading to the Iconic by returning the brand new unwrapped surge and paying the difference for the upgrade. Well I was flat out turned down, she literally said to me "tough luck" they literally turned down an extra $100 to a person whose purchased 8 different fitbits for gifts to family and friends, so I think trade is out of the question.

@PFRpaulo5678 45 day return policy if you bought Surge from Fitbit.com

No discount on iconic for warrenty claims on surges too. That was unexpected as Fitbit gives you a discount on all other devices or a replacement surge.

so if you have a surge and strap goes (again) and you want gps, then have to ask for another surge replacement. Odd as would have thought a offering a discount on an iconic would be more cost effective for Fitbit than a whole replacement surge (which will no doubt break again in a few months and need replacing again lol) .

so I have a new surge on the way as need that for gps and mountain biking  (the heat when in Cyprus looks like bubbled up the strap this time round). But will also order an iconic anyway as the surge strap will no doubt go again in a couple of months and my now 5th surge will then be out of the 2 year warranty in a couple of months)

But got to say excellent support on warranty from there customer support, one of the reasons why I'm sticking with them 😃

I would think that Fitbit would profit and cultivate more brand loyalty, even with a modest trade-in/trade-up program. If I am going to spend $$$ for a top of the line product, and want to take advantage of the new technologies and features as they become available, that would motivate me more to upgrade as new products are released. I think that is what Apple and Samsung have determined. Otherwise, if I have to pay full price, I will just evaluate who currently has the top rated, most feature rich product in the new generation of devices and go that way.

I think fitbit will offer discounts as they become more profitable. The company is struggling right now and they simply aren't making money. This press release from the company is very revealing:

Apparently not. I have been in email contact. I have a faulty Fitbit and was offered a replacement or upgrade. When i tried to pay for an upgrade I was told the ionic is not included as it is their only watch. When I asked why this was the case as the Blaze is a watch and included in the offer, I was told the Blaze is not a watch. However the Blaze is sold as a watch on the website. I hope you get to see this answer before it is removed.

Did you ever find a home for your Charge2? I'd pay shipping for it if you didn't yet 🙂

Hi,

😃 If you haven’t found a new home for it as of yet, 🙋🏽‍:female_sign: I would be extremely happy to take it off your hands! I’m stuck with the original charge before the heart rate tracker was implemented 😔.

Thanks and best, xx
