Hi,
I am new to the FitBit Ionic. One main reason I purchased the IONIC was the water resistance feature.
Has anyone used this in the pool. I teach a water fitness class and am curious if it holds up as promised.
Thank you

I swim regularly with mine and it accurately records my lengths in a 25m pool. I start the device manually and as far as I know this overrides the HR function. I have read that if you allow it to auto detect swimming, which can take up to 10 mins of swim time to occur, it will monitor HR as you swim. For my swims recording distance/time is more important to me so I use manual.

It's waterproof! 50atm.

@Sabine65 The Ionic is waterproof enough to use in a pool. However if using it to track aerobic activities in the pool, don’t expect your Heart Rate or Calorie burn to be anywhere near what you’d think. This is because wrist based optical readers are not generally accurate in water and your heart rate won’t be accurately tracked, if at all, thus throwing out your calorie calcs.

I’ve been swimming with it daily since the date I’ve purchased my Fitbit Ionic. So far no issues, however my sleep information has just reverted to the simplified info which may or may not be related. So in answer to your question I would say go ahead and do it.

Here’s a link which explains water resistance classifications.
http://www.watchshop.com/watch-guide/waterresistance.html?gclsrc=aw.ds
The Ionic is rated to 50 meters (5 atmospheres). Quoting from the website, here is what that means...
“50 metres / 5 ATM/bar: Basic water resistance, this can be submerged in water for periods, so can be used for swimming and fishing. It is not reccomended for high impact water sports.“
Ive been in the pool with my Ionic several times, but I take it off before going in the Gulf. Eventually, salt wins all battles.
