Voluntary Safety Recall of Fitbit Ionic Smartwatches

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

ionic_product.pngFitbit, in conjunction with the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), announced a voluntary recall of Fitbit Ionic smartwatches, which the company introduced in 2017 and stopped producing in 2020. The battery in the Ionic smartwatch can overheat, posing a burn hazard.

The health and safety of Fitbit users is our highest priority. We are taking this action out of an abundance of caution for our users. We will offer a refund to Fitbit Ionic customers.

This voluntary recall is specific to Fitbit Ionic devices. It does not impact any other Fitbit smartwatches or trackers.

If you have an impacted Fitbit Ionic device, please stop using it and visit our webpage where you’ll find:

  • Answers to common questions
  • Information on how to receive a refund
  • Access to a special discount on select Fitbit devices, bands, and services, if available in your region, for a limited time.

Link is ok. But no refund email after that .. sigh

The support chat is useless.
just have to pray hard for that they are sincere in the refund as they have already disabled my ionic .. rendered useless.

Apparently we have to dispose of the tracker ourselves

Hi,

Still waiting for my emails confirming refund. Where do you have to return the Ionic to in the U.K.

Thanks

My husband has an Ionic also and has just received a strange email from Sedgwick? It reads strange and just advises the difference between PayPal and mastercard payments but no real information?

@PaulAvo, in the US the instructions I received explain that Fitbit will be sending me a return kit to pack my Ionic in so I can send it back to them.  From reading the many comments here from all over the world it seems non-US owners have to agree to stop using the Ionic and Fitbit is able to disable the device from your account so it no longer will synch.  You are responsible for disposing of the watch and don't have to send it back.  My Ionic continues to work and synch just fine as I wait for the return kit. Hope this helps.

Thank you very much TomDuke,

I went to add a free band to my order, along with the new tracker, and it showed that the small bands weren't free but the large bands were. Did anyone else come across this issue? Is it supposed to be like that? I ended up purchasing the device but not getting the free band.

Hi, I am glad you have got as far as you habe with the process. Unfortunately i have not been as lucky. I can not get passed the first step. Its still telling me(on step 2-reference code) that it could take up to 30 mins. That was 5 hours ago-i have re-registered 5 times also just to be sure. This is ridiculous. Is anyone elsehaving the same issue.

I also tried calling them through the help and support section on the fitbit app itself. Waited 15 mins for sombody to answer and when they finally did they couldnt hear me and eventually said.."thank you for calling, if you need any further assistance, please call back" my blood is boiling here. Im in Ireland, just wondering is anyone else having the same issue🤬

I waited over 20 hours and my reference code still didn't work. I decided to try registering again and getting a new reference code, waited thirty minutes, and it worked perfectly. Perhaps give that a try?

Same here FitnessPassion - I’m sure it’ll all work out in the end. 👍 Gonna miss my Ionic.

Have you tried using a computer rather than a smartphone…or the other way around?

Just trying to help😊

I am struggling myself cause my “Referance Number” is not found yet( Says to wait 30 minutes, but it’s been a couple of hours now)…

I had a choice filled in the form and decided on PayPal. My verification email with reference code doesn't seem to work

I have already re-registed 5 times in the last 5 hours. Bit of a joke to be honest.

I will re register again likeu suggested and see what happens. If it doesnt work this time ill wait 20 hours like you did and do it again.

Its the 16 digit reference number on the email yes?

Do u mind me asking where in the world you are located as Im wondering is it because Im in Ireland because nothing else seems to be making any sense

Be very careful in the store if you decide to use the 40% code. It accepted my code, however, still charged me full price. Now, to deal with Fitbit about that...
