Fitbit, in conjunction with the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), announced a voluntary recall of Fitbit Ionic smartwatches, which the company introduced in 2017 and stopped producing in 2020. The battery in the Ionic smartwatch can overheat, posing a burn hazard.
The health and safety of Fitbit users is our highest priority. We are taking this action out of an abundance of caution for our users. We will offer a refund to Fitbit Ionic customers.
This voluntary recall is specific to Fitbit Ionic devices. It does not impact any other Fitbit smartwatches or trackers.
If you have an impacted Fitbit Ionic device, please stop using it and visit our webpage where you’ll find:

Hi folks,
I’m in the UK and just registered for my refund this morning. Have completed the verification but haven’t received any further communication from Fitbit regarding confirmation or the discount for a new Fitbit. Has the communication from Fitbit been a bit different for everyone?

I bought a new sense, a free strap, a year of fitbit premium and expedited shipping. Ordered last Thursday and arrived on the Friday. I am still waiting for the strap but my account is now premium and I have the watch itself working no problem.
Edit - total price was 180 euro

Very correct Terri11002
Take it of your wrist and wait for the replacement,
or, have a look in the proverbial drawer for a previous
used watch.
cheers

5 days ago I completed all 3 steps. Mt Fitbit still syncs, no email, no discount code and a paid call to UK to get 'keep waiting' as an answer 🙂

You’re lucky it’s still syncing. Mine has just stopped altogether and I only completed the process by 9am this morning. Might try calling customer service later and see if get any answer.

Hi everyone,
I have had my iconic for years with no problem. About a year ago it stopped syncing with my phone. Tried everything and nothing worked. Since it wasnt the end of the world I kept using it and went back and forth trying to get it to work. Two weeks ago I unpaired it to try that way and now not only will it not pair but it wont do anything. The screen works fine and sometimes it will load up to my normal clock screen but within 10 seconds thats gone and back to a black screen. There is no cracks and every part of the screen will show perfect colour. I dont understand. It was a lot of money and I used it constantly. A few days ago I got an email about voluntary recall however I cant find out if thats the issue because It wont let me go through the process because of course I finally decided to try unpairing to repair it (which it now wont do) So I am stuck with an expensive smart watch that does nothing and no clue how to fix it.
Any help would be welcomed

It’s such a joke. I’m training for a half marathon and rely on my Fitbit for tracking. Will just have to go back to using Strava on my phone for the time being, I guess 🤷🏻:female_sign:

Update.
As a lot of other posts had said they had re-registered for the refund, because the initial reference number was not recognised, I tried re-registering myself. This gave me a different reference number, which worked. I have now received an email telling me that I will receive the refund in 3 to 6 weeks. Because I have the Ionic Adidas edition, I will receive $329 USD. The email also has a link for the discount code. My Ionic is now un-synced and I am hoping that everything else goes smoothly (but are not holding my breath).

fjmbuiza, it's the same for me. Registered 5 days ago, got to step 3 but here I am with a working, syncing, watch and no further communication.
With all the issues people are experiencing I'd like just one official announcement to say what the state of play is.....but nope!

Ditto. I have screenshots to say the registration/verification process is complete, and I'll get a refund in 3-6 weeks, but I haven't received any emails confirming this nor a discount code

Thank you so much for posting this information. It worked!

Hi Tammy I’ve done this process and it’s saying promo code invalid don’t know if anyone else is getting this problem
------------
I’ve wheat through the whole process and I’m getting everything until I put the promo discount code in and it’s saying code invalid not sure how to resolve but I’m left now with a watch I can’t use
------------
Very true , it’s just a shame we go through the process then your watch is basically a brick now coz they’ve permanently deactivated it

@SunsetRunner I've even tried calling the UK helpline and been on hold for an hour.
I've given up now and will just bin the watch and buy a Garmin instead 🤷 they can keep the refund and the discount.
