Voluntary Safety Recall of Fitbit Ionic Smartwatches

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

ionic_product.pngFitbit, in conjunction with the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), announced a voluntary recall of Fitbit Ionic smartwatches, which the company introduced in 2017 and stopped producing in 2020. The battery in the Ionic smartwatch can overheat, posing a burn hazard.

The health and safety of Fitbit users is our highest priority. We are taking this action out of an abundance of caution for our users. We will offer a refund to Fitbit Ionic customers.

This voluntary recall is specific to Fitbit Ionic devices. It does not impact any other Fitbit smartwatches or trackers.

If you have an impacted Fitbit Ionic device, please stop using it and visit our webpage where you’ll find:

  • Answers to common questions
  • Information on how to receive a refund
  • Access to a special discount on select Fitbit devices, bands, and services, if available in your region, for a limited time.

I was under the impression that you chose all the products you wanted in the discount store then at checkout you add the code for the 40% off

Right, my code finally worked and I have reconnected my Ionic to my Fitbit account.  It will be disabled within 7 days.  Does this mean that I have to leave my useless Ionic attached to my account and can't connect my new Versa 3 that I bought on Saturday?

Edit:  I may have answered my own question.  It looks like the process deletes the connected Ionic so you are free to connect a new one.  Just noticed this on my girlfriends account.  Her Ionic disappeared after we completed the process.  I guess Fitbit disable syncing at their end.

My device has been locked because I’ve went through the registration process so this means it won’t find my watch when I try to reregister for a new promo code because my code isn’t working so frustrating

Why can’t they just replace my Ionic with a Fitbit Sense if that is suitable for me as opposed to all the refund rigmarole

@donone42 I found that the prices were already discounted. I even forgot to apply the discount code, but it seems not necessary!?

I work for the NHS and was wondering whether my NHS discount would apply when ordering a new Fitbit with the 40% discount given due to the Ionic recall.

This discount code was for free shipping I believe, but if you spent over £40 (I think) the shipping is free I took that as the reason the code didn’t work but I hear what your saying re the free strap , it appeared on my initial shipping receipt but hasn’t showed up on the delivery email for my replacement sense

My ionic device was broken and I sold it. They say every ionic customer is eligible to get the refund! So how about me? Am I still eligible to get the refund? In my opinion it’s not fair to offer a refund to Second hand owners

@Fitbit I just made a call to the UK customer service line and the guy on the phone, Mario, couldn’t have cared less if he tried! I am so angry at Fitbit for such poor customer service regarding this recall. Surely everyone should be getting the same level of service, ie. Email sent with confirmation of refund process and 40% discount code to purchase a replacement smartwatch such as the sense. I do not want to have to wait 3-6 weeks for the refund and be without a smartwatch for all this time, it’s unacceptable!!

Because nothing in life can be that easy 😄 lol
