Voluntary Safety Recall of Fitbit Ionic Smartwatches

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

ionic_product.pngFitbit, in conjunction with the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), announced a voluntary recall of Fitbit Ionic smartwatches, which the company introduced in 2017 and stopped producing in 2020. The battery in the Ionic smartwatch can overheat, posing a burn hazard.

The health and safety of Fitbit users is our highest priority. We are taking this action out of an abundance of caution for our users. We will offer a refund to Fitbit Ionic customers.

This voluntary recall is specific to Fitbit Ionic devices. It does not impact any other Fitbit smartwatches or trackers.

If you have an impacted Fitbit Ionic device, please stop using it and visit our webpage where you’ll find:

  • Answers to common questions
  • Information on how to receive a refund
  • Access to a special discount on select Fitbit devices, bands, and services, if available in your region, for a limited time.

Have you received your refund? Or happy to place your order and wait for the refund?

My Ionic just shows time and steps. Heart rate and sleep functions are gone. The flashing green light sensor has been turned off. This is why you need an internet connection to sync your watch to your phone - they have control.

I've not yet received my refund and don't expect one to be processed until the 3-6 week timeline that Fitbit have given.

I placed an order for a Fitbit Sense (with the 40% discount) on Monday, 7th March and it's on it's way from the Netherlands to the UK as we speak. I've paid for it on my credit card knowing that by time it comes through on the bill to be paid, the refund will likely have been received. If not, I trust Fitbit to process it eventually.

Hi, I’ve ordered the Sense which is waiting to be dispatched, also ordered a wristband which wasn’t on the email. I’m thinking it will be dispatched separately. The 40% off was a good saving and free year to premium. Hope the Sense is going to be as good as the ionic which I was very pleased with.

Hi Markth, my email only mentions the Fitbit Sense is being dispatched. Did your sports wristband arrive together? Mine is in the Netherlands at the moment.

Totally agree having to wait wait 3-6 weeks for refund without watch is unacceptable, espiecially if you would take fit bit product in its place.Ludicrous!!!

I am facing same problem. I managed to skip this payment detail and got a reference number  in my email. But I cannot proceed beyond step two in varification, and receive no reference CODE. How did it go with tour payment method this far?

Hopefully you will receive something soon. Mine is still saying “The parcel data was entered into the GLS IT system, the parcel was not yet handed over to GLS” I suppose they are dealing with a lot of orders.

Hi I noticed your currency is kr. I live in Norway, but the only option I had for refund payment was PayPal. Nothing else. Did you opt for PayPal or you had options? In my registration, I left that section blank and managed to get an email with reference number. Cannot proceed from there.

I chose paypal. I didn't see any other options for me neither.

Thanks for the reply. I already have personal PayPal from another country, but looks like I have to open one here. Good luck with your new device(s). I see the new ones are pretty cool, and nicer looking than our Ionic.

I am a Chinese user, and my Ionic device has been disabled according to the official email recall notice a few days ago, but I have not received the refund information, and there is no place to fill in the refund information. It is said that there are refund information filling interfaces in other regions. May I ask how can users in Mainland China get their ionic refund?  Please don't give up on Chinese users, we still have a lot of people like your products.  thanks

I’ve ordered the Sense and sports wristband but the delivery email only mentions the watch. I’m thinking the strap must be coming separately.
