Fitbit, in conjunction with the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), announced a voluntary recall of Fitbit Ionic smartwatches, which the company introduced in 2017 and stopped producing in 2020. The battery in the Ionic smartwatch can overheat, posing a burn hazard.
The health and safety of Fitbit users is our highest priority. We are taking this action out of an abundance of caution for our users. We will offer a refund to Fitbit Ionic customers.
This voluntary recall is specific to Fitbit Ionic devices. It does not impact any other Fitbit smartwatches or trackers.
If you have an impacted Fitbit Ionic device, please stop using it and visit our webpage where you’ll find:

@ KellyId77. Thanks for the tip. I think I saw a previous comment from you suggesting this method to somebody before. Funny thing is, over the last few weeks I have been getting emails from PayPal asking me to update my details because my credit card registered with them has expired. And yes, it is a genuine PayPal email, not a scam (I'm always very careful!). I haven't bothered to do anything about it because I have not used PayPal for a very long time, many years. I thought it was dead and buried by now! Perhaps I should think again.

@Darrencab try when spending where it says name adding in your name, that’s why when you registered the card you had to add in your name onto the registration details

@Hammeroo There is a section on PayPal that says withdraw money, I’m not sure if you will incur a fee doing it that way, same as if you take money out of cashpoint point with a Mastercard. When setting up on PayPal it may as banks here in U.K. do now as for authorisation from the card, this may be a little bit slow but you’ll need to put in your phone number and then it’ll send a text to your mobile, it’s all quite straightforward though. Good luck with your new fitbit

Any Fitbit reps monitoring here?!? The Ionic upgrade store is showing fewer and fewer choices of watches and bands: will these be replenished or is this what we’re stuck choosing from? I’m not going to order something I don’t 100% want and a pink sports band, even free, is not my thing.

My timeline is exactly the same as @TammLynn_17. Got in early, registered, got codes, ordered Sense, two bands and Premium. Sense arrived in UK after 3 days, straps a week later. Refund email went into spam folder on 1st April, found it today. Activated virtual card. Bought virtual Amazon Gift voucher for the full amount £223.72, which is now waiting to be spent.

Checked Paypal account as well, no transactions found
And there is no direct customer care number in India, we have to call UK number, but call gets disconnected after selecting language from IVR
So, far spent 10$ already just for selecting language from IVR

Fitbit has messed up Ionic recall program big time for Indian customer basically on four front.
1. Lack of local call centre number. Calling UK customer care number costs a lot.
2. Option of PayPal and MasterCard as neither are popular option. Visa or Gpay, owned by Google would have been much better option
3. Zero discount on purchase of new Fitbit watch. This will actually help user to collect refund and buy non Fitbit fitness band.
4. No premium membership offered to Indian customer
I have received my confirmation email on 11th March. Still waiting for refund.
