Voluntary Safety Recall of Fitbit Ionic Smartwatches

ionic_product.pngFitbit, in conjunction with the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), announced a voluntary recall of Fitbit Ionic smartwatches, which the company introduced in 2017 and stopped producing in 2020. The battery in the Ionic smartwatch can overheat, posing a burn hazard.

 

The health and safety of Fitbit users is our highest priority. We are taking this action out of an abundance of caution for our users. We will offer a refund to Fitbit Ionic customers.


This voluntary recall is specific to Fitbit Ionic devices. It does not impact any other Fitbit smartwatches or trackers.

 

If you have an impacted Fitbit Ionic device, please stop using it and visit our webpage where you’ll find:

  • Access to a special discount on select Fitbit devices, bands, and services, if available in your region, for a limited time.

As noted in another post yesterday and a reply to someone else today, I've also received this email. For those that have received this email (Australia)? have you received the 2nd email yet? When I clicked on the link yesterday, it came up with "Your gift card is on it's way, please allow up to 24 hours'. It's now been about 30 hours.

Fitbit support via Twitter says another email will arrive but for those that have done this, have you received the 2nd email yet? Or what did you do? Noting I am Australia

my Fitbit has frozen pressed all 3 buttons for a factory reset. When I put it on charge the ionic display shows but nothing else.???

I received the exact same email. It looked super sketchy, so I haven't clicked on anything yet. As you say, confirmation from Fitbit would be reassuring.

Thanks I’ll wait But it’s concerning that it actually said it would be received with 24 hours and it’s now over 30 now so ill just wait until Monday I think. Fitbit support via Twitter is no help.

UK, received the email with the virtual gift card this morning.

Done through B4BPayments as a purely virtual card. Can't see any way to transfer the funds off the card.

 

Most ironic part; you can't add it to Fitbit Pay...

@Hotlush @That’s why given choice as either PayPal so could transfer funds through to bank or virtual Mastercard so you can spend it as a card same as a regular Mastercard. I had one from fitbit years ago so what I did was added it as payment method to my PayPal account then sent the money to my dads PayPal account as friends nd family as it doesn’t get charged fees and then got him to send it back to my PayPal account and I withdrew the funds. Otherwise just spend in shops or online as you normally would

Still waiting for mine but spoke to them yesterday they said it can be transferred to google pay or Apple Pay neither of which I have. Frankly found the whole thing exhausting so far and the support utter rubbish as far as they are concerned we should wait our turn and be grateful we are getting refund( my ionic is only 1 1/2 years old) I personally can’t afford to buy a replacement before I get refund but they suggested to me yesterday that I could buy from Argos and pay it off later. When I said I didn’t think it was responsible for Fitbit to advise people to put themselves into debt to replace there faulty product and hope the refund comes in time to pay the debt I was told well I’m just telling you what someone else did.

SB1865, I'd suggest that 24 hours was very optimistic.  They probably also have to wait on a third party before moving on to the next step. Then when you look up Only 1 Visa Gift Card on Product Review, it doesnt look pretty.  I would give it until Monday or Tuesday and hopefully all goes well dealing with Only 1 Visa.

This entire refund procedure is exhausting and messy, not sure if they actually resolve all the complaints or not?

How one can send a refund claim which doesn't exist? Fingers crossed

I’m absolutely livid about the service I’ve had from Fitbit. I’ve always been a happy customer and really enjoyed my Ionic, giving up my allegiance to Garmin as a result. But since the ionic recall it’s just been a catalogue of errors. Ordered a Sense as a replacement, it got stuck with the couriers as they had addressed it incorrectly (I know I filled it in correctly as I received my free straps just fine). They then sent me a “replacement” which was just a watch face in a plastic bag, no charger/ box etc. They then insist on waiting until I send that back before sending the full order through. Just got it last night and they’ve sent the wrong watch - a Luxe. What has happened to Fitbit??!!

I today received my refund for the recalled ionic. During the recall process I was informed that a discount would be available to purchase a replacement. This discount code expired on the 13th March! How was I expected to buy a replacement before I received my refund?

I have received an email fitbitionicrecall@sedgwickbp.com that appears to be my refund, offering a 'Only 1 Virtual Visa Gift Card (Variable) link.  Can anyone confirm that this is a genuine email?  I thought I was just getting a refund to the card I had purchased my Ionic with.

Think it will be ok.Don’t think they refund to your own accounts as you don’t have to give your Card details.

How to use a discount code for multiple devices, and then use another code for accessories (free band). As instructed, all the discount codes from the Ionic recall should be use in a single transaction. But it seems I can only input one, and it only discounted one watch (it said it can be used to up to 5 watches).

All good. Will leave it to Monday. Doing a Google search and looking at their website, I’ve purchased the visa prepaid card in store and there has been no issues with them.

BTW, Im provided 3 different codes, 1 for the new device(up to 5 watches), 1 for free band, 1 fornthe premium sub...how can I use it all together?

Great news received the email from fitbiticonicrecall@myglobaloptions.com followed the link all opened up ok when I copied and pasted in the redemption code got an error but checked even though did not look like there was on if there was space at the beginning by clicking at the beginning of the box and deleting until no gap between the cursor and the number and that then worked took me 2 mins to set up and can see £223.72 on the card 

 

should say I’m in the Uk and started this on the 4th March so took 4 weeks
