Voluntary Safety Recall of Fitbit Ionic Smartwatches

ionic_product.pngFitbit, in conjunction with the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), announced a voluntary recall of Fitbit Ionic smartwatches, which the company introduced in 2017 and stopped producing in 2020. The battery in the Ionic smartwatch can overheat, posing a burn hazard.

 

The health and safety of Fitbit users is our highest priority. We are taking this action out of an abundance of caution for our users. We will offer a refund to Fitbit Ionic customers.


This voluntary recall is specific to Fitbit Ionic devices. It does not impact any other Fitbit smartwatches or trackers.

 

If you have an impacted Fitbit Ionic device, please stop using it and visit our webpage where you’ll find:

Have you tried going back to click on the link in the original email with the discount code to try setting up the account again ot doesn't it let you do that?

Hey all,

 

I have registered for a Ionic recall on 4th of March and still didn't get any information about the refund.
I just got an confirmation email that it will be solved in 3-6 weeks.

I turned to support and they keep redirecting me to https://www.fitbitionic.expertinquiry.com/contact-us 

What should I do?

So nobody can let us know when this will be resolved and not even connect us to someone that could do anything about it? 😳
I am from Slovenia (EU) and two friends already got the refund if that makes any difference.

Hey Tom, Thanks for your feedback. I totally understand your comment and the reason for the recall. For customers who bought several additional "side" products in order to use the core product adequatly this investments are now worthless due to a poor product quality caused by the manufacturer. Thats why i think a reimbursed for according side products would be eligble.

 

I think it's subjective how to value the recall offer. I have bought just my second Ionic (the first one died some days after warranty period) the second is less than 6 months old (and is also defect as the battery doesn't hold the engergy for some weeks now) and I bought several accessoires as mentioned. So from my perspective, with the trouble I already had (and the money spent) I would not call it generous but as said that's subjective.

 

But anyway, based on my research there is no other actual Fitbit watch which is using same charger connector or where the band can be re-used. Can anybody confirm this?

I had trouble verifying and disabling my device. System kept telling me
that the device was not connected to my account( it was as confirmed by
Fitbit). After much consternation and many calls their support team finally
asked me to email them a picture of the device with a not showing my
reference number in the same photo. That started the process and a few
emails later they have confirmed the refund is on process. I still have to
wait 3-6 weeks to get it though.....let's hope it all works out.

@dane80 - Hey, I feel you on this and I had just bought a second Horween band a couple of months before the recall was initiated.  They can't be used with anything else but one commenter here said they found an adapter on ebay or a similar site that allowed the Ionic straps to fit the Sense/Versa.

 

I had 3 Ionics and hoped to be able to use them for a good while longer. As far as I know in the Fitbit family the charger connection is unique to the Ionic. I owned two different Charge models and they both had different chargers. 

 

The watches only have a 1 year warranty so I guess I feel lucky mine lasted as long as they did. One died after two years, the second was going strong after two years and I never turned on the third back up Ionic. I'm hoping the Sense holds up.  Good luck.

My watch has been disabled and I cannot connect it to my smartphone. When I click on the link in the email (Fitbit Ionic Recall Account Verification), I have a message "You already registered for our special offers"... I've tried with my linked email account instead of my other email and it doesn't work. Can you help me with this?
 
My other watch has been replaced by a Fitbit Sense thanks to your offer.

purchase and all was fine, only problem I have is I don’t 

how to get my account up so I can check balance.

I Proceed the Recall of my Ionic and fitbit shut down the device so although ist was working properly ℹ was forced to Buy a new device… 

up to bow i didnt receive any Information about the refund which fit Bit promised to Sent.
How is the Process and whats the amount of the refund?

Hi, I went through the recall process very early on when the recall notice was issued. I still haven't received the refund or the discount email.

I have tried calling the number provided on the contact us page a couple of times and keep hearing about we will get back to you or we have escalated it to our managers.

It has been more than 6 weeks already. Any other way to get in touch with the refund team?

My refund in the uk took six weeks
It was surprisingly easy my refund was £223.
It was a high street gift card. My only problem was finding the account
This money was in. I found after joining this forum it’s BforB bank.

 I received the email notification from paypal that my payment is waiting, I verified the details on my paypal as per instructions. It has been more than 7 days since then. No notification after that. Did you receive your payment yet?

Did you get the refund yet? I chose paypal still waiting for my refund. Paypal sent me an email saying "Your Payment is waiting" and I need to verify my account which i did and it has been 7 days since then. No payment received in my paypal account.

I received the same email saying ‘your payment is waiting’ on 30th March. I called paypal to credit into my account, as i have cleared all the account informations. It has been 25 days since then, haven’t heard any solution from them.. Still waiting.

Done all the required reporting and gotten confirmation that the report of the disabling was correct.

It has been more than 7 weeks and I have not received any refund.
