Voluntary Safety Recall of Fitbit Ionic Smartwatches

ionic_product.pngFitbit, in conjunction with the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), announced a voluntary recall of Fitbit Ionic smartwatches, which the company introduced in 2017 and stopped producing in 2020. The battery in the Ionic smartwatch can overheat, posing a burn hazard.

 

The health and safety of Fitbit users is our highest priority. We are taking this action out of an abundance of caution for our users. We will offer a refund to Fitbit Ionic customers.


This voluntary recall is specific to Fitbit Ionic devices. It does not impact any other Fitbit smartwatches or trackers.

They ask you to change it to be the same as PayPal, they send you the procedure for it.

I got refund with several gift cards last week, I just spent two of them and the third one already saying to wait for generating the code, it said to wait 24 hours which I have been waiting for 2 days now, I still see the same message to wait. 🥲🥲🥲

My Ionic stopped synching after several months. Turning on and off Bluetooth, restarting the watch, restarting the iphone, and removing and reloading the app all failed to help. I removed the device and tried to add it again and each time after putting in the pin provided by the watch the watch fails to connect and I am instructed to abort. Running out of ideas,

I have not recieved my Ionic refund cash. Even the Fitbit connect us is useless as all numbers are out of existence and unable to contact the customer support.

I wonder if the setup process is disabled given that Fitbit recently recalled the Ionic over a safety concern. See: https://community.fitbit.com/t5/Ionic/Voluntary-Safety-Recall-of-Fitbit-Ionic-Smartwatches/td-p/5087...

 

Your best solution may be to go through the recall process and upgrade to a more recent model.

well, persistence might be paying off at last.

 

I rang the Ionic refund line again (for the 3rd time this week) and finally spoke to someone that sounded bothered. She was very helpful, confirmed the process so far (including having to go via manual device verification process, although also admitted it was amusing that it had to be verified, even though to get the process started I was sent an email telling me I had an Ionic with a fault!).

 

She then looked it all up, and confirmed my paypal address as the record showed it was different to my Fitbit email.. and says I should get an email from Paypal soon, when the money hits.

 

How long "soon" is there is no idea, but at least someone in the team seems to be doing a good job

It was exactly 3 months. I submitted on 4th of May and got the refund on 6th of August. Still, it’s only 30% of the refund that I am able to spend, the rest it still requested me to wait for the code.

I opt for Google play refund but discount coupon are not working .some of them worked but 70 percent of refund coupon doesn't work .

It saying the same response for 15 days .

Hi Venables, this is HeartSufferer from Australia.

I have been waiting 21 weeks. I called the refund centre today and was
shocked and disillusioned and disappointed.

Initially Sedgwick refund team spelt my PayPal email incorrectly. They
omitted the "h" in my first name. (Their mistake). They had to send to
Fitbit to make correction as they do not have authority to make changes.
This is a trust issue. This request for correction was sent on 27 May 2022.
I called on 4th August to follow up and was advised the correction was made
on 3 August by Fitbit and refund is forthcoming. I did not get a refund so
I called again today 12 August and was told by another staffer that my
PayPal email was still spelt incorrectly without the ("h" in Randolph). I
said to the staff, how can the same mistake be made for a second time and
what the hell did Fitbit approve/correct. They had no answer. I think it is
the quality of staff dealing with the refund process. Probably Fitbit not
hiring the right staff. Their command of language is woeful.
This whole refund process is pathetic to say the least. How can Fitbit
expect customers to keep their cool when treating all of us as though we
are beggars or destitute.

I am going to Vancouver later this year and may drop into Fitbit in Frisco.

Is it B4B payments you are getting it through? You need to ring them and they will update your account with your phone number so you can get the code.
