Wondering if there are any diabetics out there who are using the FB and working towards weight loss? I'm insulin dependent and trying to lose weight but more importantly trying to regain my health and physical strength while balancing everything. A challenge a day! Love to hear your stories....

Juan, you are doing awesome! Reading your story is a true inspiration to me. My step goal right now is 10,000 but I think I am going to increase that to 15,000 and get out in walk more along with my p90 and biking. You are right, it is about the journey! We did not put all the weight on overnight and it is not going to all come off overnight either. It takes work and dedication to make the change, but we can do it!!!!!!

Great drop in A1c in 9 months as it is now almost normal. I imagine that you changed your diet as well as getting active. Hope that it is something that you can continue for life. Some people reverse the signs of D2 and have normal bg and A1c. You are only .3 from normal A1c so congrats.
Keep up the good fight.

AC1 changes over time. You have to mantain your healthy levels from 90 to 120 days. It is the lifespan of the hemoglobin cells [NORMAL] and AC1 mesures the amount of glucose attach to it.
More about that here:

Most of us forget some questions at the doctor's office. I agree that A1c every 3 months is good feedback.
Sorry about your number staying the same. Maybe next time it will inch down for you. I think that getting it to 5.6 which is normal is such a win and you going there. Prediabetes a1c begins at 5.7 and goes to 6.4 so you are in low end of the prediabetic range! You are on your way and your BP is normal. You have lost lots of weight and are working on losing more. You might want to aim for the healthy BMI range for your height and gender. On line there are calculators that can figure that out for you.
Your walking up the highest hill several times a day on vacation is impressive.
All the very best,
Barbara G

thank-you @dancefoxtrot 🙂
I am wondering when I start strength training, if it will make a difference to my A1C...anyway, I am sure it's going to be good for me.
I feel like I am doing well but always a bit nervous and anxious about having T2D. Next A1C is after the holidays and I am hoping the timing of it motivates me to keep eating well. I am pretty sure that if I tell my Doctor that I feel more comfortable with every 3 months he will do it. He thinks I've "got it" as far as managing my diabetes but I am still a bit anxious and I still feel like all the things I do are like a report card. My doctor told me he likes the balanced diet approach and I like that too but wondering if a small reduction in the carbs might make a difference. I would still LOVE an A1C of low 5's. It's my personal goal. I am not sure why he doesn't want to see my A1C much lower than what it is..I am sure a few points downward wouldn't be an issue..or I hope it wouldn't be. I really, really like my doctor though..he has time for discussion..it's just I forget to ask as there is always so much to talk about with this new life.

Thanks @JerriAnn! Yes I am super proud of my weight loss but even more, my walking and keeping active. I am beyond proud of that. I always walked my 2 dogs but lots of times it would be short due to cold weather or hot weather or just because and they don't need huge exercise...now they are both fit and trim and I am starting to get that way. My BMI now has gone from obese to overweight and next I can't wait for normal weight!!!!! I probably will pick top of normal so it's easier to maintain...
The one thing I truly miss even though I know it's a very bad habit is coming home from work after a "hell" day and just having a bowl of cereal for dinner hahah (no cooking)...ahh the old days but now I am a heck of a lot healthier and it was a huge wakeup call for me. Hope you are doing well!!!

I love seeing all this great support and encouragement! I think almost anyone can improve their situation with regard to diabetes -- maybe not to the same extent that some of you have, getting to normal numbers -- but certainly an improvement over what you maybe have now. I went from a not particularly out of sight number of 7.3 on my A1c to a stead 5.6 all of the time. My doctor announced that she "no longer considers me diabetic." Wrong. LOL! I'm one giant plate of pasta away from being reminded that this doesn't just go away. But I'm not having that big ol' plate of pasta! So, it's all good. 🙂
Remember that you're investing in yourself, your future, and your time with the people who love you. You're attempting to make that the best time possible, and that means taking the best care of yourself that you possibly can. Will you have setbacks from time to time? Sure, but they don't have to be anything that stops you. They don't have to be the end of anything. You just pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and get back to it. 🙂 You'll be so glad that you did.

I have been diabetic for years and put on insuln 6 months ago. I hate it - so I am determined this year I am going to get healthy and get off insulin!
